LOIRE GARDENS

Loire valley garden Villandry

Moulin de Maulne is within short driving distance of many beautiful gardens open to the public and well worth a visit.

Villandry is perhaps the most famous potager in the world. Created in the C16th, it was restored in 1906. Each year it is planted up with a different design of vegetables and bedding plants to create an ornamental kitchen garden on a vast scale.

The garden and château are open every day until evening.

Less then 30 mins drive from Moulin de Maulne, you can enjoy a picnic outside the gardens in the picnic area or go for lunch at one of our favourite restaurants, La Giraudière, before or after your visit.

Each year the château at Chaumont hosts the International Garden Festival. Some of the grounds of the château are transformed into mini showgardens of garden designers from around the world. The winner's garden remains for 2 years.

Each year has a different theme and the creations are often wacky.

The showgardens are reached via an amazing 'jungle' walk which is worthwhile seeing in its own right.

There is plenty of space to picnic and there are cafés and restaurants on site.

We couldn't write about gardens to visit without mentioning our own!

We love gardening and each winter finds us designing yet another area. Moulin de Maulne is sited on heavy clay and the garden was created out of fields so it's not easy work but the rewards are high.

The potager provides joy and frustration in spadeloads!
