Happily Ever After

Go Inside

Go inside a dog shelter.

See the homeless dogs,

Waiting for loving owners.

Perhaps you’ll find a frightened Frenchie,

Previously abused.

Hear his desperate whining,

Of pain, fear, and loneliness.

Perhaps you’ll witness a poodle pup,

Who knows only sorrow, disappointment, and misery.

See an ugly, deformed Doberman,

Always shunned by shoppers.

Knowing perhaps he’ll be put to rest forever,

Eyes listless, tail tucked; he awaits his doom.

Hear the frightened whimpering,

As a malicious person walks by.

Perhaps this sheltie was

Meant for the show ring.

See a sleek gray hound,

With depressed eyes and protruding ribs.

Perhaps he ran half a mile,

One second too slow.

See a shivering, sick Chihuahua runt,

One who is always last.

Perhaps you’ll discover,

He was meant to be yours.
