Alfalfa: (similar to red clover properties) 

Helps in assimilation of proteins, calcium and other nutrients.  Blood purifier, fever reducing, helps normalize body weight.
Burdock:
For chronic skin conditions (acne, psoriasis, dry, scaly eczema), helps to clear excessive blood acidity and kidney related toxemia as well as joint inflammation.   Stimulates appetite and flow of digestive juices, enhances metabolism, builds body to state of health.
Cascara Sagrada:
Bitter principles of this bark stimulates the secretion of the entire digestive system, including liver, gallbladder, stomach and pancreas.  One of the safest tonic-laxative herbs known and can be used on a daily basis without becoming habit-forming.  More soothing when used in combination with fennel or caraway seeds.
Chamomile: calming, healing, fever reducing, healing of battered and nervous stomachs.
(one cup in the morning, and one cup in the evening, instead of coffee :)
Chaste Tree Berries:

Damiana (aphrodisiac):
Anti-depressant, strengthens nervous and hormonal system.  Used to treat impotence, testosterone-like action, may strengthen male system.  Mild laxative.  Use with Wild Oat, Skullcap, Hops for nervous anxiety; or Wild oat and Kola for depressed condition.
Dandelion:
Best for the liver, digestive and gall bladder problems.  Helps to regulate and normalize hormone production.  Rich in potassium, therefore ideal diuretic, highly effective against menstrual bloating, PMS, breast tenderness associated with water retention.  Assists pancreas and is therefore valuable in hypoglycemia and diabetic conditions.  Also for muscular rheumatism.  Combines well with Oregon Grape or Milk thistle for liver and gallbladder.
Echinacea:
Blood and lymphatic purifier; anti-bacterial, anti-viral, stimulates interferon production, stimulates the immune system.  Excellent for colds.
Feverfew:
Anti-inflammatory, vaso-dilator, relaxant, for migraine headaches, relieves tinnitus and dizziness, relieves nausea, melancholy, sadness, enhances feeling of wellbeing.
Ginger:
Promotes circulation, helps reduce morning and motion sickness, cramps...
Ginkgo:
Vaso-dilator, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, anti-clotting, the memory herb; used for tinnitus, vertigo, geriatric dementia, inhibits bronchial constriction by reducing inflammation in lung tissue, excellent for treating impotence, arterial erectile dysfunction.  Combines well with hawthorn and wild oat.
Ginseng:
Affinity for circulatory system; used to treat blood weakness and anemia.   Depressive states, often when exhausted or sexual inadequacy.  Combines well with Saw palmetto and Damiana for treating glandular weakness.
Goldenseal:
In salves or tincture for its antiseptic effect; in douches to treat vaginal infections; a quarter teaspoon with some water for upset stomach; a powerful herb that should not be overused.  NOT reliable for drug testing (Could in fact cause positive!)
Gotu Kola:
Best nerve tonic, for memory loss, schizophrenia, epilepsy, neutralizes blood acid, supposedly increases longevity. A main herb in Ayurvedic tradition.
Gravel root:
Commonly known as Queen of the meadow and Joe-pye root.  Highly regarded as a remedy for gravel and stones of kidneys and bladder.  Also used to treat water retention and joint pains caused by uric acid deposits.
Marshmallow:
Easily digested vegetable mucilage which aids body's mucus in lubricating the joints to protect them against irritation, dryness and regulating the heat of the body.  A powerful anti-inflammatory and anti-irritant for joints and gastrointestinal tract.   Also of value for all lung ailments.  High in minerals, especially easily assailable calcium.
Mints: 
Peppermint, Spearmint, Lemon Balm: all excellent tonics for the digestive system.
Mullein:
Lymphatic congestion, diarrhea.  Can be smoked for decongestion.  An infusion in Olive oil used as ear oil.
Myrrh:
One of the most effective antiseptics.  Tincture of myrrh makes an excellent mouthwash for spongy gums, sore throat and other ailments requiring an astringent antiseptic.
Nettle:
Helps reduce water retention, a natural anti-histamine!  Good for excessive menstruation, PMS, hemorrhaging.  Rich in Vitamin K, A, Calcium, Iron, Chlorophyll.  
Raspberry leaf:
Rich in Calcium, iron; tones and strengthens pelvic muscles.  Good for excessive menstruation.  Very nutritive for all cycles.
Skullcap:
Very safe and reliable nerve sedative.  Good for drug and alcohol withdrawal, hypertension, insomnia and restlessness.  Blends well with Hops, Passionflower... Rich in Calcium, Potassium, Magnesium.
Saw Palmetto:
Tones and strengthens male reproductive system, enhances male sex hormones, helps enlarged prostate glands and infections. Tones bladder, allows better contraction of bladder, nourishes nervous system.
Slippery Elm:
Great food when there is difficulty holding and digesting food.  Supposedly heals stomach and intestinal ulcers very quickly and normalizes bowel function to relief constipation and diarrhea.  Also soothe inflamed lungs.  Beneficial for cough, bronchitis.
Uva Ursi:
A specific treatment for bladder and kidney infections, and when combined with Marshmallow root, is useful for eliminating stones from those organs.
Valerian: 
Very sedating and calming for all emotional disturbances and pain.  With Hawthorn berries good for high blood pressure and irregular heartbeat.  Combine with Cramp bark, effective cramp reliever.  Do not boil, but rather only steep.
Vitex (Chaste Tree Berries):
Hormone balancing, normalizing pituitary gland functions to balance especially progesterone.  Also good for men for midlife changes/transition.  Helps control acne in both male and female.  Also good for premenstrual herpes on lips.   Excellent for menopause, since decreased progesterone causes more problems than decreased estrogen.
Wild Yam:
Regulates hormone production with steroidal saponins  (hormonal building blocks) needed for progesterone and cortisone.  50% of raw material for steroid synthesis made with Wild Yam. Progesterone-producing herb, therefore, also beneficial for menopause.
Yarrow:
One of the best diaphoretics.  Peripheral vasodilator  (promotes perspiration).
Yellow Dock:
An astringent blood purifier useful in treating diseases of the blood, jaundice, lymphatic problems and chronic skin ailments.  Stimulates digestion, improves function of stomach, spleen and liver, flow of bile and acts as a laxative.  A nutritive tonic, high in iron.

Natural Pet Care

Alfalfa (Medicago sativa) - A well-known fodder plant, Alfalfa is known for being rich in nutrients, particularly calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium and vitamin K1. It's also good for a multitude of other things. It is a strong alterative, cleansing the body. It has also been used to prevent cancer, lower cholesterol, improve and aid digestion, ease or cure arthritis, reduce acidity, eliminate ulcers, and much more!
 Contraindications: Large amounts of alfalfa can cause bloating and anemia. Do not feed alfalfa sprouts or seeds to pregnant animals as it could cause miscarriage. This herb deemed pet safe when fed in moderate amounts to non-pregnant, non-nursing animals.
Burdock (Arctium lappa) -
Burdock is a wonderful herb for cleansing the blood and helping the body rid itself of toxins that have slowly built up over the years (don't use if your pet's just been poisoned, take him/her to the vet immediately!). It stimulates and cleanses the liver, as well as the production and flow of urine. For both people and animals with kidney, gall, and bladder stones, Burdock is often an effective in removing/dissolving the stones. Burdock also fights cancer, and is in the herbal cancer remedy, Essiac. High in nutrients, it also makes a great supplement to pet foods, and can stimulate the appetite as well.
 Contraindications: Animals with too much stomach acid should not use this herb alone. Pregnant and nursing animals should use this, and all herbs with caution.

 
Catnip (Nepeta cataria) -
Catnip is a wonderful herb often known only for its affect on cats. What many don't realize is that it is, in actuality, an incredible healing herb for many animals and even people. Warm catnip tea can soothe a stressed or frazzled pet. It's great for pets who are restless or who have trouble sleeping. A little catnip sprinkled on the food can calm an upset stomach and ease gassy and colicky conditions (use caution in horses). Tension of any sort, whether mental, emotional, or physical, responds quickly to a dose of catnip. Catnip is also great for depression and colds, among many other things.
 Contraindications: Catnip, while considered generally safe, can have quite varied affects on our feline friends. While some cats may show no interest in it, others will do just about anything for it, and when they DO get it, go absolutely wild before settling down in a "drugged" stupor where the can't even seem to function for a few hours. My suggestion.. try small amounts, then stand back and watch. If your cat seems to be able to handle it, then feel free to add a little more. ^_^ Some DOGS even like catnip, too.

 
Comfrey (Symphtum officinale syn. Symphytum officinale) - Comfrey is known for its wound and bone healing properties. Taken internally, it will help wounds and broken/bruised bones heal faster. It is also known for its action in the lungs. It is a great expectorant and has also been used to aid (and even cure!) asthma! Externally, it has been used in salves and poultices for healing skin problems, bruises and wounds. Comfrey is very high in nutrients and has been used as an animal fodder and food supplement.
 Contraindications: Taken internally over extended periods of time or in large doses, this herb could (possibly) cause liver damage. For deep or puncture wounds, do NOT use this herb- it heals over the top of wounds so quickly that an infection may be trapped deeper inside and could cause an abscess. Pregnant and nursing animals should use this, and all herbs with caution.

Dandelion (Leontodo taraxacum syn. Taraxacum officinale) -
Dandelion, that obnoxious yellow "weed" in your yard, is, in fact, an amazing golden treasure! Very high in nutrients, Dandelion makes an excellent tonic. It also stimulates the appetite. It, like Burdock, also helps the body rid itself of impurities and is a blood cleanser. It also stimulates and cleanses the liver, kidneys and digestive tract. Dandelion is also a diuretic (increases urine flow). Most diuretics flush the potassium from the body, however since Dandelion is SO high in potassium, it can be used safely (in most cases) as a diuretic as it replaces the potassium it removes. This plant also aids in dissolving gall, kidney and bladder stones and has been used for so much more than can be listed here.
 Contraindications: DO NOT use dandelions picked near roads or other inhabited areas as they may be contaminated with car exhaust, pesticides, or other harmful substances. Animals with too much stomach acid should not use this herb alone. Pregnant and nursing animals should use this, and all herbs with caution.

Echinacea (Echinacea spp.) -
There are many species of Echinacea and they, for the most part, have been used interchangeably for many of the same things. Echinacea is an immune stimulant and as such has been used favorably in treating various colds and infections. Some of its other uses include, but aren't limited to: cancer, pain relief, arthritis, and wounds.
 Contraindications: Use caution with pregnant or nursing animals, as well as animals with immune-deficiency diseases.
Echinacea (Echinacea angustifolia syn. Echinacea augustifolia) - Considered the strongest of the Echinacea species, E. augustifolia syn. E. angustifolia is highly favored, and some will use only this species. Regardless, it is a strong immune stimulant, useful in treating various colds and infections, preventing infection, cleansing the blood, relieving pain, reducing the effects of arthritis, and even helping the body rid itself of cancer.
 Contraindications: Use caution with pregnant or nursing animals, as well as animals with immune-deficiency diseases.
Echinacea (Echinacea pallida) - The lesser-known of the three most popular Echinaceas, E. pallida is considered to be weaker than the other two (E. angustifolia syn. E. augustifolia and E. purpurea). Nonetheless, it is still very effective and, it, too, is used to stimulate the immune system. This herb has been used for colds and infections, as well as cancer and wounds, among other uses.
 Contraindications: Use caution with pregnant or nursing animals, as well as animals with immune-deficiency diseases.
Echinacea (Echinacea purpurea.) -
Considered weaker than E. angustifolia but stronger than E. pallida, E. purpurea is the most commonly used of the three, not only because it's more commonly available, but also because it tends to be cheaper and work almost as well as its stronger counterpart. In fact, their uses are practically identical. Colds, infections, wounds, cancer, arthritis, pain and so much more respond to this herb.
 Contraindications: Use caution with pregnant or nursing animals, as well as animals with immune-deficiency diseases.
St. John's Wort (Hypericum perforatum) - Famous for its treatment of depression in humans, it is also becoming well known in the pet world now, too! An excellent herb not only for depression and anxiety, but also for bumps, bruises, swelling, sprains and even arthritis. Unlike some anti-depressant, anti-anxiety and arthritis medications that can damage the liver, St. John's Wort won't, and actually, will even cleanse it a bit, as well! 

 Contraindications: Pregnant and nursing animals should use this, and all herbs with caution. St. John's Wort can cause photosensitivity in some people and animals; animals with fair skin or a sensitivity to sunlight are more likely to develop a rash if exposed to sunlight. Animals currently on MAO inhibitors or SRI's (serotonin reuptake inhibitors, i.e., Prozac) should use this herb with EXTREME CAUTION.
