Qualities of landfills
1) A Land fill is a piece of land or and excavated piece of land that is specialy made for the purpose of recieving garbage. Items such as appliences, newspapers,books,magazines,pastic containers, packaging, food scraps, yard trimmings, and other garbage from residential and commercial, and industrial sources.
2) Some of the problems with Landfills are Municipal landfills and their leachate (water) and air emissions are hazardous. These toxins that leek into the ground can cause many problems such as sicknesses and diseases affecting the overall health of the community. The toxins can be very diffucult to detect so people will get sick and not know why. So the people will keep getting sick and not know the reason until it is to late.
3) Municipal landfills can accept hazardous waste under federal law. An unlimited number of 'conditionally exempt small generators' of hazardous waste have access to municipal landfills.
4) There are many alternatives to landfills. Our best option is to recycle materials, reuse what we can, and reduce what we use. If we follow these three basic rules, we would fill up the landfills slower and use less landfills in the future.
5) Recycling can be a good thing because you are basically reusing things that have already been used such as glass, paper, and plastics.
