More About Me

I live in Florida just over the bridge from Amelia Island. Also known as the Isle of Eight Flags, it is a wonderful place to live. We moved down from Georgia in 1999, purchased a bit of land and finally on July 6, 2007 we moved into our adorable little home. I love it here! There are many great shops downtown in the historic district and we have beautiful beaches. Being a Pisces, I adore the ocean. Walking on the beach, listening to the surf and the seagulls soothes my soul. The people here are warm and welcoming and there's always something going on.
Amelia Island hosts the Concours d'Elegance annually.
We're also famous for our annual SHRIMP FESTIVAL
Check out the 2006 Shrimp Festival Pix here.

Though I love the ocean, I also ADORE the Great Smoky Mountains. There's nothing like hiking or camping amid nature's splendor or taking a leisurely drive through Cades Cove. Just across the river from Knoxville and the University of Tennessee, Maryville was a nice place to live. Although my son and I went through some tough times there, sometimes I miss it since I moved away. But I wouldn't leave Fernandina Beach for anything.

I love My Family I have two grown children, a 30-year old daughter who lives in New Jersey and a 23-year old son who lives on the Gulf Coast of Florida. I also have two grandchildren, both boys..one in Jersey and the other in Delaware. I'm also blessed to have a lovely step-daughter who is 28 and just had her first baby, a son, in August 2007. She and her husband live in North Carolina. It's tough when your children are so far away. We keep in touch via e-mail and our online journals.

I share a lovely little dream house with my husband and our three furkids Savannah, Helen and Ebony. They all came to us as strays. The girls have been with us eight years and Ebony almost two. They are a never-ending source of entertainment and joy. Okay, I admit it, I'm a little crazy when it comes to my wonderful cats. But the companionship and devotion they give us is priceless and our home would be quite empty without them.

I love My Job. I'm now the proud author of three - count 'em - three columns in the paper: Together We Can - which tells about the various organizations in Nassau County; May I Help You? - a brief article about the good folks who wait on us at local businesses or government offices; and Helping Others - which spotlights big-hearted volunteers. Since I was only hired as a typesetter, this is very exciting to me because writing is my all-time passion. UPDATE: Another new column! Now I'll be writing profiles about folks who are frequent "letters to the Editor" authors.

I started keeping a journal when I was only eight years old. Now I keep a Livejournal, thanks to my son who introduced me to it about 5 years ago. I still have my old written journals from 1976, the 80s and 90s. It's interesting to re-read them from time to time and remember the past.

My Poetry also means a great deal to me. I've won some awards and have been a published poet since 1976.
