When I began a project that was dear to my heart, writing a memoir of my childhood in Washington, DC, I didn't really know how to begin. About five years ago, I took on the task of doing a family history. Gathering all the information took me about four years. Then it took me another year to put the book together ("Written In Stone"). Just before I got ready to take the book to a publisher, I found a ton of mistakes. I tried to correct everything with a spell check program and a dictionary. It was a nightmare.
