Thousands of Jordanian and Arab spectators gathered last week to attend the concerts of Lebanese singer Elissa and Egyptian pop idol Ehab Tawfiq. To the tunes of Ehab's songs from his new and old albums, the audience danced and sang the lyrics which they had learned by heart. Ehab is a well-known for his shababeyeh (young) songs, concentrating on hip, rapid tones, light lyrics and catchy tunes. In addition to his musical talent, Ehab has an academic qualification. In April he was awarded a doctorate in Music and Arabic singing. The theme of his doctorate was the methods of performing Arabic singing in Egypt during the second half of the last century
