The Convent of the Nine

• We are traditional witches practicing traditional hereditary witchcraft as taught by the Old Families. Working with the traditional witches tools and spellcrafts. We are no part of the New Age or Wicca invented by Gerald Gardner. Wicca has no value amongst the Traditional Witches. The Convent of the Nine, led by High Lady Modranicht-du and her Devil, are well-known amongst other traditional family witch convents of the Red Web.

Wicca

• We refute the claims of created Wicca and its "covens", and no recognition is given to any new age group or "pagan" group not belonging to the Red Web or its regional variants. When Gardner in the 1950s first publicised that he had been initiated into a witches' coven, fear spread amongst the Traditional Witches, forcing them to hide. When we got hold of a copy of the so-called secret book of shadows, it became clear that this was a complete invention, and the Secrets and Oaths were safe. It pleased The Convent of the Nine to allow this false book to fall into Sanders' hands, and so Real Witchcraft has since been hidden behind the fallacy of Wicca, a collection of myths and legends from Italian, Egyptian and Roman sources.

Witchcraft

• Far from the magic circles cast by teenagers in living rooms across the city, The Convent of Nine meet in a darkened wood. Stang raised, the Old Ones are called by magical words. A broomstick leans against a tree trunk. No "charge of the goddes" is read, nor any "rule of three" abided by. Magic is worked through ancient means. No incense, no candles wavering in the misty rain. The Oaths are Abided.
