Here are a few links that I find useful on the web.  If you are looking for your very own web space whether to purchase or from a free host, be sure to shop around and check out your options.  I do know that most free web hosts do not allow remote linking.  Also you will find places to get guestbooks and counters and other goodies for your site.

Free Web Hosts

Angelfire
(They offer free web space up to 20MB of storage for your files, 500MB of bandwidth a month, your choice of popup ads or ads on the site, sorry no remote linking.  You can also buy web space from them as well.)

Topcities
(They offer free web space as well.  It's been awhile since I've dealt with them and as far as I know they don't offer the option of popup ads on free sites.  I do know that they don't allow remote linking from free sites.  You can however buy web space from them as well.)

Lycos
(They are pretty much like Angelfire.  I think that their storage space and bandwidth is different but I'm not sure by how much.  They don't allow remote linking from free sites.  You can also buy web space from them as well.)

Tripod
(They are pretty much like Lycos and Angelfire.  I think that they have a few things different but I'm not sure.  They don't allow remote linking from free sites.  You can buy web space from them as well.)

Freewebs
(I'm not sure about storage space or bandwidth.  I do know that you can't remote link from them anymore.  I believe you can buy web space from them but I'm not sure if it's from them directly or from their sponsor.)

Web Hosts for a Price
(Great thing about buying your own web space is that you can remote link and that you can call it yours.  But do shop around and find out what is right for you and what is in your price range.  It's okay if it takes you awhile to find out what you want, remember this is your site your creation.)

(I have my other site bought from them.  They are pretty good I have the first package.  You get 100MB of file storage, 2Gigs of monthly bandwidth, up to 10 POP emails, SSI and much more.  You pay yearly.)

Bravenet
(This site has it all just about...LOL.  You can get your counter, guestbook, email newsletters, site poles, and other goodies.  They also offer free web space and purchasable web space.)

HTML Gear
(This site has guestbooks and counters.  I've not really used this site so you'll have to check them out for yourself.)

DreamBook
(Far as I know this site only offers guestbooks but they may offer counters as well.  I've not used this site so you'll have to check them out for yourself as well.)
