Genetically Engineered Food Wrong or Right

What are some good and bad things to GE foods?

Here are some more info on GE some is good and some is bad you tell me what you think? 1) The potential benefits of genetically engineered food are exciting. At the same time though, there are real concerns on biodiversity, the ecosystem and people's safety if such food has not been tested properly and guaranteed to be safe. As economics are factored in, there is also some concern as to which benefits from such technology, people in need, or people who need more. 2) There has been no adequate testing to ensure that extracting genes that perform an apparently useful function as part of that plant or animal is going to have the same effects if inserted into a totally unrelated species. Quote: "Genetically engineered crops were created not because they're productive but because they're paten table. Their economic value is oriented not toward helping subsistence farmers to feed themselves but toward feeding more livestock for the already overfed rich. " -- Amory and Hunter Lovins, Founders of the Rocky Mountain Institute, quoted from Are Genetically Altered Foods The Answer to World Hunger? by John Robbins, Earth Island Institute, Winter 2001-2002, Vol. 16, No. 4 3) Forget democracy!! The biotechnology industry does not like informed public debate and proper scrutiny of developments. Instead, its preferred tactic is to focus on persuading legislators, ministers and governments to the supposed economic benefits of patenting. - From 'Patents on Life' by Corner House, Resurgence, March/April 1998 4) The GM cotton boosted the yields of black farmers in South Africa's KwaZulu-Natal province by between 50 and 89 per cent compared to its conventional counterpart, the researchers found. The yield per kilogram of seed was even higher, with increases up to 129 per cent, as fewer seeds are needed for the GM variety. In addition, labor and pesticide poisonings were reduced. Quote: "This was the first study in sub-Saharan Africa. It's not trial data, its real farm data," says Stephen Morse, at the University of Reading, UK. "We were not expecting differences as big as this. The farmers were glowing, they were very happy." Now you have seen both sides of the fence you will make your own mind up but for me I think I am going with the Con's. I riley don't think that we should be messing with things like that. It is also not been proven to be safe and yes some of what the Pro's say I do agree with the fact that it will save a lot of money and time it will also help the fight agent hunger. Ok Well That Is All Love Yah
