Free demo available for dowload

2003/05/01

A crippled demo of Yexi for OS X was made available today at Macupdate. Many thanks to Corey and Joel, who made this possible. The full version with a revised manual will follow shortly.

2003/04/12

These are a couple of new features that just made it into the upcoming revision of Yexi:

- Now, there are hot-keys for the autopilot commands, so you can switch flight patterns and toggle the autopilot on or off with two simple keystrokes; all very convenient.

- Destination objects and tactical targets can be loaded from any station by using Option-click and Control-click. For instance, you can pick a destination from the TAC screen, or pick a target from the ATG screen.

Yexi for OS X tooltiped

2003/04/08

Yexi OS X has been tooltipped. Now, players can hover the mouse pointer over a button todisplay a short description of that button's function. That should help new players get acquainted with the commands more easily, and veterans to find new commands as well.

The tooltip feature can be turned on and off anytime from the setup screen or by pressing a preset key.

Yexi for OS X nearing gold

2003/03/31

Yexi OS X featuring the single-player campaign is going to reach gold status in the second week of April; that's already been set on stone.

There are several improvements over the previous version, but the most significant ones are found under the hood. Both the A.I. routines and the auto-pilot algorithms have been enhanced to a great extent and the commands are much more responsive than before.

Also, I decided to put the dialogue texts of the single-player campaign missions into separate text files. This way, the background story, the objectives, and the dialogues can be translated into languages other than English by anyone who is willing to do so.

Yexi 1.02 delayed but on the way

I've been busy trying to set the ground to get started with the porting of Yexi to OS X. Consequently, I had to push the release date of the version 1.02 a bit. The single-player pack should be out sometime this Fall 2002.

Also, I've contacted Scott Kevill and we are making our best to make Yexi playable over GameRanger's multiplayer network.

Fonts missing?

The intended fonts may not display correctly when you play Yexi, even though they are embedded into the application. It's recommended that you install these fonts (Arial, Arial Condensed, Impact) into your System Folder to correct this issue.

The update file size is 11.1Mb. If you purchased the previous version of Yexi, you may download it free from our online store by following the re-download instructions on your order receipt. If you experience any difficulties, send us an e-mail.

It's A-GO: download Yexi tonight

I got a hold of the tech guys today. The whole problem was just a minor server configuration issue that prevented me from completing the upload. The file for download is fully available as of now.

2002/07/04

Temporary hold up

I've been trying to upload the game file to eSellerate's server but every time the transfer is nearly done, I receive a time out warning and the file can't be locate on the server. I've already sent out a distress call to the tech support, but there's no one availble to assist me right now because of the holiday.

If you have already made your purchase and couldn't download the file, I ask you to try again tomorrow, July 5th, after 12:00 pm (PST).

The CD-ROM ordering system is not affected by any of this, so I'll start taking orders and shipping the CD-ROMs on Monday, July 8th.

Well, that's why it was called a trial release. It seems we simply can't go against Murphy's law no matter how hard we try. I'll keep all of you posted on the development of the situation.

Thank you for understanding. If you have any questions, please send me an e-mail.

Timing couldn't be better

eSellerate's server received a major upgrade early today. This means more convenience for your purchase and improved security when using your credit card online.

Here's the snippet from eSellerate's newsletter:

"Customers may use the expanded support page to do any of the following:

* Print a receipt for their order

* Re-download products purchased from an eSellerate web store

* Request serial numbers from the publisher

* Report accidental duplicate orders

* Report changes in their personal information

* Access their order history

* Reinstall products purchased from an installer or an application

* Request purchase process information "

"Yexi - TIA" will be uploaded and made available for purchase later on tomorrow night in the Americas / early morning in Europe (July 3rd). The download file size is less than 20 Mb, what should take about an hour to download over a 56 kbps connection. Submit any comments to yexi@earthlink.net. Your feedback is very appreciated.

Mac gamers, with respect

Here's an excerpt from the review of the recently released MacPlay's "Sacrifice" posted on MacGamer.com:

"[...] both Sacrifice and Giants carry the GameRanger logo on their packaging [...], thus giving a clear impression that each game comes complete with multiplayer readiness, which neither does [...]. Once the game is purchased, the owner will find an advisory note inside the DVD case [...] but, of course, you can't read this note until you've bought the game and MacPlay has your money. [...] I wonder why it is that they feel they can ship incomplete games which are inarguably inferior to their PC counterparts while other, more seasoned publishers do not dare to try such a stunt. [...] A recent MacGamer poll found that over 85% of readers prefer to get a finished game, even if it means waiting a while longer. [...] As for the buying public, make sure that before you put your money on the table that you want the game that's actually in the box."

Inside Yexi's A.I.

During one of the test sessions, a developer compiled the current code to gauge how well the A.I. is working. Here are his comments:

"I've set up this mission in which I had my ship stationed near a Starbase, with another ship patrolling nearby. I was testing the docking procedure and then decided to introduce three enemy ships into this scenario. I was clearly outgunned but I had confidence the starbase would back me up.

Well, I wound up losing thrusters and had no way to steer my ship! I was a sitting duck! To my surprise, my escort came to the rescue, disabled one of the attacking vessels and went on pursuit of the fleeing vessels. The starbase finished off the crippled ship and the explosion's shockwave caused even more damage to my ship because of the proximity. Meanwhile, my escort took a beating from the other two ships, but not before inflicting a great deal of damage upon them.

A minute went by with all ships performing repairs. I was deciding whether to send out a distress call, what would leave a stain on my service record, when my escort, now half recovered, warped into pursuit of the enemies and discharged all its torpedo power upon the poor bastards! There were just a few escape pods left to be picked up afterwards."

Official Yexi web site available

Yexi - The Interstellar Adventure web site went live today. The web site features the latest news, screenshots, newsletter and more on the new space simulator of D'Carlos & Covett Communication.

The company has launched a new web site dedicated to its new MacOS space simulation. The site is dedicated to giving gamers up-to-date information including news, articles, screenshots, downloads, and polls.

More features will be added to the site throughout the game's development. The web site is designed to be a centralized forum where Mac gamers and fans of the sci-fi genre can follow the development of the game.

"The main goal is to put the player in front of the stations consoles to actually pilot the starship on her missions through a vast galaxy. Like myself, many fans of the sci-fi genre always watched the Star Trek® movies and other franchises and wanted to be in control of those starships, but could not find, so far, a space simulation that allowed it with a great level of detail. Through our web-site, we plan to provide the fans with the latest news, concept artwork, animations and much more about this so antecipated game." said F. C. Covett, director and creative lead of the company.
