Cotton is Dirran's largest industry.
|
Large
dams fill in a flood and can run a cotton farm for over 3 years. This is a
small dam of about 300 acres, feeding a property of 600 acres.

|
The cotton is sewn and watered in a 6 month process, at
the start of Winter it is picked by these machines which picks 4 rows at a
time. |

 |
|
After the cotton is picked it is placed in a modulator.
This squashes the cotton into a large rectangular module like the ones
above. Each module contains 8 -9 bails of cotton, and each bail is worth
between $700 - $900. |

|
The ground is then mulched and the blades pictured above
tear the root of the plant from the ground. Pictured is the tractor going
along the rows mulching the picked plants and tearing the root from the
ground. |

The cotton is sent to the Dirranbandi Cotton Gin where
the seed is removed, the cotton is cleaned and repacked and shipped for
sale. |
