We have studied five famous
reformers in American history. Some people would call them infamous rather
than famous. You are a member of the group that feels that these famous
women are infamous. As a member of this group, you will select one infamous
reformer and create a Wanted Poster for that individual that will be placed
on our Infamous Wall of Fame.
American women had a tremendous
impact on the women's rights movement. Some of their activities made
them famous and many times infamous because their activities were not always
approved by mainstream America. You will read your biographies. Then your
group will create Wanted Posters for one of our Famous American Women Reformers:
Jane Addams, Susan B. Anthony, Bertha Honore Palmer, Elizabeth Stanton,
and Harriet Tubman. This Web Quest is designed as cooperative project.
You will be assigned a partner to work with you on the project.
Read a biography about the
life of a Famous Woman Reformer.
Read a biographical sketch
on the individual who you chose to help you answer the elements listed
in the Process.
When you read the biography,
you may include one you read from the classroom set, one read to you, or
one from your own readings. Answer the elements listed in the Famous
American Women concept map for each individual. These elements
include:
a. Early Life and Education b. Characteristics c. Challenges d. Major Successes e. Influence on the United
States
Decide why the Reformer should
be considered infamous. Take notes to include in your poster.
Select a picture to include
on your Wanted Poster. You will use the Internet for your pictures.
After you have selected the picture, download and save it as a jpeg file
in a folder named Posters.
Include in your Wanted Poster
the mug shot (picture), biographical information (name, date of birth,
home town, major activities), activity that made her infamous, and the
amount of the reward. Also, include a quote by your reformer. Give
credit for the source of the picture beneath the picture.
Print a copy of the poster
with your sources of information highlighted.
