Now, I am not going to lie to you. This game is a bitch to beat. You only get to continue once every five levels, so if you get to level 4 and get game over, you're right back at level one. There are tons of levels, and lots of jumps for you to make. Therefore, this walkthrough is not going to be the only thing you need to defeat this challenging game. You will need lots of patience, endurance, and a good amount of platforming skills to be able to complete it. 30 levels of nothing but action and jumps will be hard to overcome, but I hope that together, we can make this journey. Because this game isn't really all that bad once you get over the flaws and the fact it's not really a true Predator-based game. My review was pretty negative, sure, but the game is fun once you get past the fact it's not actually a true Predator game. The only annoying flaw is the glitchy controls, so I will explain those real quick. Basically, you need to jump a lot, and sometimes you can jump on enemies heads for some reason. I guess they don't mind. Plus, you will sometimes slide right off a ledge. You have to be VERY careful as to what you are doing, especially in later levels where you only have one block to jump on at times. Onto the walkthrough! ------------------------ | LEVEL 1 | ------------------------ You will get to hear some weird music followed by a title screen that looks.. plain. You just get the logo and the start/continue screen. Big deal. Push start, and then watch the story scene. Oh, wow, it's the same story line as it was in the movie. Too bad it makes no sense here.. Anyways, you'll finally start the game after you see an annoying picture of Arnold. Yes, we get it, he's a bad ass dude with a machine gun. It looks just like the Predator DVD (9.44 at Amazon, people!) cover. Yay. When you start the stage, you will see a life meter, an item meter, and a life counter on the top part of your screen. The game basics describes what they are. Yes, that's right, go scroll up, you lazy bums. =) You will notice that you are in a weird forested area and that Arnold is wearing pink. A MANLY PINK. Welcome to Predator for NES. Go left and jump on the rock to collect the Machine Gun. Oh yeah, we're rocking now. Funny story, my first 30 or so times through this level, I completely missed that item. And it's right there. I guess I was just trained to go right or something. Now, go right and kill that annoying brown thing with eyes by shooting it a few times. Make sure to duck and shoot. You can't duck and PUNCH at the same time for some reason, which will get annoying soon enough. You will soon come to a fork in the road. Up or down? That is the question.. well, first kill that annoying scorpion that tries to land on your head. If you go up, you're a lucky man (or woman), because that's the way you're supposed to go. If you go down, hit reset. Just kidding, but it becomes a tad more frustrating. Grab the grenade, and then you will have to ignore this red guy by jumping over him a lot. It's very hard to kill him with the grenade. You basically would have to throw the grenade down and let him walk into the line of fire. Other than that, you will see a wall, and the object is to throw several grenades into this wall so you can blast a hole in it to walk through. This will not be easy at all, and you may get hit a few times by the annoying red soldier. The key is to push up and jump as you throw the grenades, so they land in the top parts of the wall. Once you blow the two top squares, focus on the bottom ones, and then the middle ones. It will take a while to get used to, as it's hard to aim the grenades properly, but you can easily overcome this with a little practice. Now, jump on the rock and kill that little scorpion thing, and proceed to the right. There's a green soldier here, and you better watch out, as he has a gun and HE ACTUALLY USES IT, therefore earning 100 more IQ points than the retarded Red Soldiers that just walk around and do nothing. Jump over his bullet and then take it to him. Kill the scorpion, jump, and you will be in some temple-like place with a cool bricked wall background. Proceed to the right, and kill the green soldier, then jump over the hole and continue onward. The next green soldier will just fall in the hole himself for some reason, so jump over it and you will be back in the familiar background. Jump on the two blue rocks, kill the red soldier, walk left, killing scorpions along the way, and enter the door. Yay, you have completed stage one! Only 29 more to go. ;-) ------------------------ | LEVEL 2 | ------------------------ You're still in the same forested area that you were before, but now you hear a new song. This new song sounds an awful lot like the level 9 stage of Yo Noid. My brother heard the song and immediately said it sounded the same, as well, without me asking him to begin with. It's still a great song, just a tad odd though. Ignore the brown enemy to the left of you, since there is no weapon to be had at this part of the stage. Go right, avoid the scorpion, and you will be up to your first challenging jump of the game. SCORPION -------- -- -------- | | | | | | Sorry for my crude ASCII art, but I am trying my best, honestly. ;-) Go ahead and make that jump, it's not too hard. The scorpion at the beginning of the 3rd platform here will give you minor problems, but you can just avoid it by waiting for it to walk right, and then jumping on the platform. Here is where the level starts to get a little loopy, as it splits into 2 paths. Top Path: Just do minor jumps from one platform to another. Bottom Path: Avoid the brown enemy and scorpion, then do some minor jumping. Then, you will get some blue rocks to jump up on, followed by some enemies running in between two blue rocks to the east of you. Since you don't have a weapon right now, it will be damn hard for you to actually kill all these enemies, so just do your best to avoid them. The green solider with the gun of doom is here, and 2 scorpions. After this, you will have to make a LOOONG jump downwards. Land on the brown enemy (see, I told you some enemies allow you to walk on them for some reason), but watch out, as he will fall down the hole and take you with him if you are not careful! As he is falling off, just jump onto the small platform to the right of you, then hop onto the larger platform after that. Here, you will have to quickly run over and punch the green soldier before he shoots off his bullet. If you can't get there in time, jump over the bullet and then hit him. Do a soft jump onto the next platform and punch the red soldier, then take care of the scorpion before jumping up 2 platforms to kill a green soldier. Now that you are on the top platform, slowly make your way across these platforms, doing soft jumps at each one. You will soon see a brown enemy, so jump on it. He will quickly fall down, so get off him, then slowly start to jump your way from one blue rock to the next. This is the easiest way to get through this level. If you take the middle platform, it's pretty much the same thing, with a minor brown enemy across the way. If you took either of the top 2, you will have to kill a green soldier before moving onto the next part of the stage. Easy enough, the same strategy of avoiding his bullet before punching him applies here. The lower screen makes you take more jumps, but you won't have to worry about the green soldier. Finally, we are to the last part of the stage. It looks a little like this: ------- | | G.S.| | ------------- BROWN ----- -- -- ------ --- You start directly above where I am typing this, and you have to make it to the door. Just jump from 1 to 2 to 3 to 4. Both enemies will fall down, and then you can just make your way to the door. Avoiding them if they don't fall down is no problem, either. ------------------------ | LEVEL 3 | ------------------------ You are now out of the forested areas of doom, and have now stumbled upon your first underground cave. This stage also happens to be the most challenging stage yet, as the underground stages usually will be. The enemies become more numerous and challenging, but you will stumble upon some cool power ups here. The music here is cool, as well. Do 5 jumps up these ledges, and you will be on the top one. I note that there is nothing holding these ledges together, despite the appearance of the level, so you can die if you are not careful. I died quite a few times in this stage because I took it for granted and didn't jump properly. Make sure that when you get to the top platform, you jump down 5 times as well to the floor. You will soon come across a fire spitting creature that will prove to be quite annoying throughout this game. Fortunately, he's not too bad here. You can easily figure out his pattern, and then jumping from one platform to the one to the left, and then punching him, would be no problem. Make sure to stay on the lower platform, so you can jump up and land a direct punch on him. A punch next to him on the top platform would not harm him at all. Continuing along, you will come across a pair of ghosts. Since you are not armed at this point, you have to pretend you're Solid Snake and avoid these as best as you can. Fortunately, it's not that challenging at all. Just run back to the left part of the screen, and then let them pass by, jumping over them in the process. Go right and jump over the next pair of ghosts that you see. That's all there is to it. Move along and collect the Square icon.. which I don't know exactly what it does as I am typing this, but I'm sure I will have found out by the end of the game, so check the Game Basics section for more details on that. Punch the little enemy thing that's annoying you, while avoiding that red seahorse since you can't kill it. Also, that green jellyfish that's flying above you, ignore that one as well. Also, make sure to remember here that you are still basically walking on ledges that you can fall through at any time, since they are little lined platforms that don't really have much leeway at all. Just make sure to always stay on the platform and not to fall off the ledge, because nothing but death will await you. Lots of jumping is key here. Punch the ghost that comes at you, while avoiding the red fireballs that the seahorse I told you to avoid is now deciding to shoot at you. I told you this game gets hard in a hurry. As you continue to jump across the platforms, you will soon see the door, but you are not done yet, as you cannot jump up to the platform that the door is on yet. We have to take the long way around! Collect the Laser Gun icon, while avoiding the fireballs that the enemy above is shooting at you. I told you those enemies will soon prove to be quite annoying. Shoot some holes through the wall using your laser gun (man, it sure is nicer to use the Laser Gun than those freaking grenades in level 1 that took me a while to get used to), and continue onward. You will see this little green thing moving up and down, so stand a little back, underneath the wall (hopefully you just shot out the bottom 2 walls), and then shoot it as it comes at you. After a few turns, it will die, and you will get to move forward. Watch out for the fireballs that the TWO enemies from above will be shooting at you, while continuing to jump from one platform to the next. Is the game becoming fun enough for you yet? Keep running and jumping, firing your gun at all cylinders to take care of the ghosts that you will encounter along the way. Man, I am only down to one life bar and on my last life, I just want to survive this stage so I can finish the stage for the FAQ. I see a life pellet up there, I hope I can get to it, but probably not. We shall see. Duck, and shoot the green enemy, while avoiding its fireballs, and oops I died. There's two enemies here shooting fireballs at you, one from above, and one from ground level, so it's hard to get an accurate read as to where you are supposed to stand. Just duck and shoot at it, then move forward, continuing to avoid those damned fireballs. Just keep running, avoiding them some more. It's not very fun, but such is life. When you get to this wall, only shoot the first half of it. Jump on the 2nd half, and do a running jump onto the higher platform. Now, I do not recommend picking up this hand icon, as it is just punch, and you have a laser gun already. Try your best to avoid it, but it's hard to. Now, jump over the first green enemy (or shoot it), grab the life bar (full power, yay), then avoid (or kill) the green enemy and ghosts that will come along your path. How dare they prevent you from trying to reach the exit! Avoid (or shoot) the two green enemies, walk quickly across the platform, jump onto the purple block and quickly jump to the next platform, and enter the door. ------------------------ | LEVEL 4 | ------------------------ The music is pretty interesting here, as it's more upbeat, but sounds a lot like the previous 3 stages. Did they not just use the same instrument over and over or something? This is the most annoying stage yet, as you will first half to go downward, using grenades to kill enemies, and then you will have to make tons of jumps. This stage is not for the weak of heart, and just think, it gets MUCH HARDER. Pick up the grenade icon, and then try to aim the grenade at that annoying snake-like thing. Most of the time, it will just jump up to the top platform anyways, so it's up to you. I find it hard to actually aim the grenade directly at him, due to the fact he likes to move around a lot, so it's up to you. Once he is taken care of, proceed forward. The gray thing here is much easier to kill (and it does remind me of a Super Mario Brothers 2 enemy). It will just move back and forth slowly, so just aim the grenade at him and it should kill him. The annoying thing is that the grenade has to be RIGHT NEXT to him, like grenades wouldn't hurt someone that's more than an inch away from them. Oh well. Move down to the next screen, and you will see 3 enemies here. The first one is one of those annoying snake enemies again, but you can easily avoid it, or kill it if you want to. He's on the same level you are now, so just aim it to the right (or left) of where he is walking and he should walk right into it. The enemy you will encounter next is even more annoying, as they have the ability to shoot at you as well as run into you. They walk back and forth, left to right, and shoot quick fireballs at you. The secret is to aim a grenade at a spot, then jump into the direction of the grenade, but onto the platform north of it. The enemy should follow you, right into the grenade. The next enemy is one of those gray things again, so you should really have no problems there. It's funny, if you just walk a few feet to the right of him, stand there, and throw a grenade, it will stay right next to him, but he won't move, so he will die. It sure is easier than trying to locate enemy movement or garbage like that. Make sure to stay to the left as you fall down this screen, as you will be in a new room. Just fall down to the next screen, don't even worry about that freaking pink butterfly or anything like that. You don't get points for killing enemies, you know. Here is where it starts to get really interesting. You cannot fall down the screen here, or you will die. You have to go left to right now, and you have to make these little jumps that are pretty difficult to do at first. Fortunately, for now, it's one path. From the red platform, jump right, then right, then make a soft jump left onto the one directly below the jump you started at. Jump left twice for a Laser weapon. Cool. Now, fall down to the next jump, and then do a strong jump onto the next tiny platform, and then jump a few more times. It's all about precision jumping and timing here.
