THIS IS A QUICK HANDBOOK OF THE RULES. ALL IN-DEPTH QUESTIONS CAN BE ANSWERED BY MEMBERS OF THE STAFF.
INTRODUCTION
:The A.H.L is a simulated fantasy hockey league using the FHL simulator. The league is composed of actual NHL teams and players. Simulations will occur everyday with various (1-2) FHL days simulated. To be a part of this league, you must: co-operate with the NHL staff, be an active participant by sending in lines and answering e-mails, and have ICQ. If all these rules are followed, it should be easy for everyone to have fun. Remember this is a league designed to be competitive, entertaining and enjoyable.
GENERAL MANAGER DUTIES
:1) General Managers must be very active!!! They must regularly send in lines MINIMUM OF ONCE A WEEK and be found on ICQ. Gms will receive 50k every time they send in their lines. If a GM sends their lines in for every game they will get 4.1million at the end of the season.
2) They must have respect for the NHL staff and other owners.
3) If they have to take a leave of absence, they must notify one of the three Commissioners or face expulsion from the league.
4) E-mails regarding the league must be answered quickly.
5) A team cannot be in debt by the end of the season.
6) General Managers should regularly send in team reports to the NHL message Board.
7) General Managers must vote on year-end awards.
1) AHL will re-rank players based on their FHL performance after every season. NHL performance means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING except for Prospect Ratings!!!
2) Players that retire in the NHL will retire at the end of their current FHL contract. Furthermore, any player deemed to be retiring in the near future by the Commissioners will not be eligible for a long term contract. This is to avoid the idea of signing retiring players to long term contracts.
3) Players that play out of position will not play to their full ability.
4) CONSIDERING THE SHORTAGE IN CERTAIN POSITIONS, EACH TEAM WILL BE ALLOWED 3 POSITION CHANGES PER YEAR.

PROSPECTS:
1) ProSpects are players belonging to a team but who do not exist in the NHL yet.
2) To sign a prospect, e-mail or icq a contract offer which the Commissioners will counter with an offer, and then will create the player.
3) Prospects are gained through the entry draft and may be traded like a normal player. Only 3 prospects can be activated in a season.
To keep the ratings from sky rocketing when a farm player gets to 69ov they must be promoted to the pro roster. You may do whatever you want with them but they will no longer be allowed to go up on the farm.COACHES:
1) Coaches are hired from a list of coaches provided by the simulator. A coach not on the list can be added ONLY during the offseason.
2) Coaches will affect a team's play.
3) Coaches may be hired or fired anytime during or after the season.
4) Firing a coach will cost the team half of the coach's contract.
ROSTERS:
1) You can only carry 25 players on your pro roster.
2) There must be 20 players on your active roster for a game with 2 goalies as the only requirement.
3) The SALARY CAP is $42million dollars at this point. The Commissioners will have set dates as to when you must be under this cap. Failure to do so results in a 3 million dollar fine for one day and then random releasing of a player the following days until the team is under the cap.
4) Three goalies are necessary!!! You must have three goalies on you pro and farm teams combined at
all times. Failure to do so results in a 2 million dollar fine.5) Players on the farm team will make 10% of their pro contract.
6) Players (25 and under) will be paid full contract after playing 30 games in the season. If not they will be paid 50% of the contract according to the 2 - way contract
7) Rookies in all positions, excluding goalie, must play 25 or more to be considered a rookie for that current year. It is 10 games for goalies.
TRADES:
1) Trade are very important in this league. You can trade any player, prospect or draft pick. Money can be exchanged as well.
2) All trades must be sent in by both parties to
aggressivehl@hotmail.com where the Commissioners will look at the deal and confirm it.3) Trades that look too one sided will be reviewed by the Commissioners who will decide if the trade goes through. Their decision is final. Trades that involve one of the Commissioners that look 1 sided will be reviewed by 3 random GM’s.
WAIVERS:
1) Players sent to the farm team may or may not have to pass waivers
2) Players 26 and older that have played 25 NHL games must pass waivers. All other players do not have to pass through the waiver system.
3) No player has to pass waivers during the preseason and offseason.
4) Players remain on waivers for 7 days.
5) Waiver Priority List is based on NHL standings during the start of the week.
RELEASING PLAYERS:
1) A player may be released at any time in the season.
2) A released player must be paid half of his total contract.
FREE AGENCY:
1) When a player's contract expires, he will become a free-agent.
2) A team may only resign 3 restricted players during the year and a maximum of 2 unrestricted free agents. These players will avoid free-agency. In order to sign these players GMs must offer "respectable" offers to the Players' Union. From there, the GM will be given a counter offer or a contract extension sheet. The whole point of this is to create the same type of atmosphere for player's signings that there are in the NHL.
3) Free agency will last for a set amount of time in which teams can propose offers to players, with the player
taking the best offer at the end of this time-frame. This will be determined by the respective agents.
4) A player may be offered a contract that lasts no longer than 4 years.
5) There are two types of free-agents:
Unrestricted
- players 30 years or older
- can sign with any team without any compensation
Restricted
- players 29 years or younger.
- any amount of money may be offered
- the team may retain a player's restricted rights by giving the player a 15% increase in their salary.
- the team holding the player's rights may match the an opposing team's offer or they will get
compensated based on the contract signed
To sign a restricted free agent, the team trying to sign the restricted free agent must give up some sort of compensation.
The base compensation for a player who is receiving 1 million per season is ------------- 1st ROUND DRAFT PICK
Once teams start offering millions to the restricted free agent, teams will receive a greater compensation made up of
Draft Picks, Prospect and Current NHL Players.
This compensation will be decided by the NHL Staff and CANNOT be argued with. Usually the team trying to sign the restricted free agency will have to give up their FIRST ROUNDER, A PLAYER FROM THEIR PROSPECTS LIST and/or a VETERAN.
Compensation that will be given will be FAIR and cannot be DISPUTED. So GMs be aware you will run the risk of maybe losing a prospect, or a veteran and picks. Obviously if a team offers say $6 million for a restricted gm, they will have to give up more as compensation.
The Staff will use the basis of the NHL Petr Nedved situation. Canucks received Craig Janney, who was then turned in to Nathan Lafayette, Jeff Brown and Bret Hedican as compensation for losing Petr Nedved.
The Commissioners will decide the compensation thru a 2 out of 3 vote.
If GMs have any questions on why the old FA system was scrapped please ask the commissioners.
ENTRY DRAFT:
1) After each season the NHL. will have a five round entry draft.
2) Entry draft players will be made up of NHL draftees, successful minor leaguers, and all players in the NHL not currently on a NHL roster or prospect lists.
3) Draft order is based on standings in the previous season. Non-playoff teams are always ahead of playoff teams.
REVENUE
:1) Revenue is mostly made through ticket sales at games.
2) A team can change their ticket prices at anytime during the season.
3) Arena capacity can only be changed at the end of each season and it will cost $1,000 dollars for each seat added.
AWARDS:
Post-season awards will be voted on by General Managers. These awards and their nominees will be posted on the site and gm's will be notified.
Extras
:for winning the Stanley cup you will receive $2 million dollars
for winning you conference you will receive $500,000 dollars
