We
started out the year with a gathering at Nurhiday’s and Yusliza’s apartment. We
made home cook Malaysian food and had a short meeting to start of the year. The
meeting consisted of what we were planning to do for the rest of the year and
informing everyone about membership and the fees. After the meeting we had a
Dream Cast competition, where we were divided into four groups. The Dream Cast
winners went home with Malaysian souvenirs.
BBQ
at Zilker Park (11/03/01)
For this event, we invited Malaysian families in Austin and also the University of Houston Malaysian Student Association to join us. We BBQ all kinds of food and also made other side dishes. We also organized a few games outdoor games for the adults as well as the children.
First
Spring 2002 Gathering & Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) (02/02/02)
This
gathering was held at Azlan’s apartment. At this event we held an extraordinary
meeting to elect a new president. We also discussed future plans we had for
UTMASA for the Spring semester.
Chinese
New Year Celebration With the Singaporean Student Association (SSA) (02/16/02)
This
year, UTMASA celebrated Chinese New Year with the Singaporean Student
Association. We had a BBQ at East Wood Park where we prepared all kinds of
food.
Being
far away from home, it was hard for many members because they were unable to
celebrate the new years with their families. This gathering made them feel
better in a way that they got to celebrate with friends.
Besides
eating, we also organized a few outdoor games. We divided everyone into four
groups. We played soccer, football, volleyball, captain ball and basketball.
This was a good way to get to know each other. This event is the first event
that UTMASA held with the Singapore Student Association. Therefore the members
from our association were able to meet the members of SSA.
At
this event, we were able to inform other Malaysian as well as other students
that the Malaysian Student Association existed in UT Austin. Some people did
not know about the association before. We are hoping that from this event, more
people are aware about our association and will attend our events.
