Frequently Asked Questions

Installation

Q: Will Macross VO run under English Windows 98/Me/2000?
A:
Yes. Macross VO will install and run fine under any language versions of Windows 9x/ME/2000/XP. Under Windows 2000 or XP you will need to run the game using "Windows 98 compatibility mode". To do this, right-click on mcr.exe (or its shortcut), select Properties -> Compatibility -> check "Run this program in compatibility mode for" -> select Windows 98 in the drop down box. You will need SP2 installed to access this option if you have Windows 2000.

Q: An error message appears towards the end of installation and reports that it cannot find a file. What should I do?
A: This may happen if you are not running Japanese Windows. You can safely hit ignore as the missing file is just a shortcut to Bothtec's web site.

Q: The game runs on my non-Japanese Windows, but the Japanese text won't display correctly. Can I fix this?
A: If you are using Windows 9x/ME, you will need a third-party language support program such as NJWin. If you have Windows 2000/XP, simply go to Regional and Language Options under Control Panel and choose Japanese as your system locale.

Gameplay

Q: I can't hear any music in the game.
A: First make sure that your CD-ROM has been configured to play CD audio properly. If you have multiple CD-ROM drives in your system try putting the game CD into your first CD-ROM drive. If you are running Windows ME you may have to disable "digital CD audio" in Device Manager.

Q: How do I pause during game?
A: Pressing the F4 key will show your current IP. This can be used to pause the game.

Q: My missiles won't lock onto the enemy mothership.
A: The Target Mode key (default: N) toggles between the VS Ship and VS Plane modes, which let you fire missiles at enemy motherships and fighters respectively..

Q: What is the Target Mark mode (M key) used for?
A: When you press this key your active target will be highlighted. Apart from being able to track down the target more easily, you can now use the autopilot key (default: S) to automatically turn towards this target.

Q: How can I refuel or repair quickly once I am inside my mothership?
A: Click on the box that shows your name to bring you to the equipment screen. Now you can just click the OK button to exit and you will be fully rearmed, refueled and repaired.

Q: How do I move the camera around in the radar screen?
A: Drag with the right mouse button to rotate the camera, and drag with both mouse buttons to zoom in or out.

Q: How do I give orders to my wingmen?
A: Your wingmen show up as green icons in the radar screen. To give them orders, go to the radar view, left-drag to draw a box around the wingman you want to select (it's easier to zoom out first), then right-click on the wingman and the order menu will appear.

Network

Q: How do I chat during a network game?
A: Pressing the Enter key will bring up the chat box.

Q: I am behind a firewall. What ports must be open when I play over the network?
A: The host will need to have TCP port 47624 open. Other players joining the game will need to open their TCP ports 2200-2400 and UDP ports 2200-2400.

Q: How do I sign-up and connect to Bothtec's game matching server?
A: Please refer to the Multiplayer section of this site.
