Young Charles Macalister (son of Captain Lachlan Macalister) arrived in Sydney in 1833 from Scotland. In 1839 Charles Macalister and another fellow Scot McMillan, Macalister's overseer were instructed to find newer,greener pastures for the cattle. In 1842 he took up land on the opposite bank of the Avon, until 1850 when the lease was taken over by John Foster. .
