WHEN THERE'S NO MORE ROOM IN HELL, THE DEAD WILL WALK THE EARTH

MONROEVILLE MALL
Dawn's primary filming location was at the Monroeville Mall in Pittsburgh. This huge mall was home to 143 different stores, the majority of which allowed themselves to be seen in the movie. Although still in existence today, most of the shops have either closed down or changed since 1978. JC Penney's still exists though, (possibly due to it's publicity in DOTD?!?!) and little has changed in it since Dawn was shot. Despite the shop changes, the structure of the mall itself remains virtually untouched - the infamous lights on the marble pillars are still there as are the huge skylights and the fountain at the east end. Many store owners were co-operative with the film makers and allowed their products to be filmed/used without many security precautions.

HAROLD W. BROWN MEMORIAL FIELD (Monroeville Municipal Airport)
Another significant location in the film was the H W Brown memorial field, also known as the Monroeville Municipal Airport. This small landing strip, located 10 minutes away from the mall, is still in use today, although time has taken it's toll on the runway and the petrol pumps (yes, still there after 24 years!). Described by AirNav.com, the runway is '...asphalt, in poor condition. EXTSV CRACKS WITH GRASS GROWING THRU CRACKS'. Although a new fence has been added and various other changes made, it still remains recognisable. The charthouse in which Peter kills the zombie kids is still used regularly and has recently been painted blue.
