Born September 5th, 1939 in Goulbourn, Australia, George Lazenby
came to Britain in his early manhood and rose to the top of the male
modeling world and with no acting experience whatsoever. He auditioned
for the part every actor in the world was dying for, and to the envy
of many, was was chosen to replace Connery as Bond in On Her Majesty's
Secret Service in 1969.
So the Australian model-turned-Bond only played him in one movie -
arguably the best of Fleming's novels. He played the role of James
Bond with enthusiasm and skill. Once coupled with the fact that he
had no previous experience, you must congratulate Lazenby on being
a perfectly adequate replacement to the legendary Connery.
In his post-Bond career, Lazenby acted in a few TV movies and in the
early 90's had some minor parts in mainstream movies. On the whole
though, his foolish decision to dump 007 after one movie was a regrettable
and almost career-destroying one.
