Feed Facts

We feed "12% Protein Sweet Feed", by Cargill Animal Nutrition, mixed 3 to 1 with shredded beet pulp. During an extremely cold winter, we may mix in some cracked corn at a ratio of 3 to 1. We usually feed twice per day, but during the "fat" summer months, some horses may be fed morning only. Most of our horses receive only a handful of grain during the summer, as our pastures are more than enough to sustain them. We keep a close eye on our horse's physical condition and add or subtract grain slowly to/from their regime, as needed. We, at Trinity, firmly believe that horses should be supplimented with grain only when pastures are poor or as the horse's protein needs increase, as nature intended the horse to graze on roughage 24/7. We try to turn horses out as much as the owner/weather allows for proper grazing/exercise needs.
