Living in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia during the Great Depression, the Waltons make their small income from the family sawmill located on Walton’s Mountain. Told through the eyes of Richard Thomas as John Boy, the saga follows the family through war and depression, growing up, school, courtship, marriage, employment, aging, illness and death. Part nostalgia, part country charm and part homespun wisdom, it still has an entire nation familiar with the sign-off: "Good night, John Boy."
Based on the popular televison series, The Waltons

The Real Hamner Family House in Schuyler, Virginia: The Real "Walton's Mountain"
Schuyler Virginia was the home of Earl Hamner."The Waltons" Earl based the fictional town of "Walton's Mountain" on Schuyler. Earl was the "John-Boy" character and he based the show, and an earlier work called "Spencer's Mountain", on his upbringing in Schuyler during the Depression.
Was known as the S&H Grocery Store,The Sign read S&H Grocery,General Merchandice,Ike Godsey's Gen. Store,in 1985. Unfortunately, it burned down a few years later, though a new grocery store has sprung up in its place.
The original store wasn't quite as innocent as the one portrayed on the television program. It was actually a pool hall that served beer, sandwiches and pies. However, the essence of Godsey's Store (the one from TV land) is captured inside the museum itself where you can actually have post cards mailed with the special "Walton's Mountain" stamp and purchase souvenirs of all things Walton. If you are lucky, you may be able to catch a glimpse of Joe Conley aka "Ike Godsey" from the television program during one of his annual treks to the museum.
This Building Was Originaly Used As The School The Hamner Family Went To,And Is Located Across The Street From There Former Home,It Is Now The Walton's Mountain Museum

Below is Historical Infomation , on The Baldwin Sisters and Ike Godsey.
From what i can find out , if Ike Godsey had a counterpart It is not sure, although the character is so intimately drawn it would be hard to believe not. Apparently no one's been able to ascertain whether there were really any "Baldwin sisters," although residents believe Hamner based the sisters on a real-life mother-daughter moonshining team. (It wasn't said if this mother and daughter were of genteel ancestry or not.)
As explained by Earl Hamner: “Down on Route 6 between Esmont and Scottsville lived two ladies who made an elixir they referred to as their Papa’s Recipe. They were proud of their product, and whenever anyone would sample it, they would lean over, watch them and wait anxiously for a reaction: Was it smooth enough?, Had it been a good batch? And was the recipe machine working? I wasn’t old enough to sample the Recipe but my father and uncles stopped there quite often and they seemed to find the Recipe much to their satisfaction.” It was from those personal recollections that Earl Hamner created the characters of Miss Mamie and Miss Emily Baldwin.
