Library computer project

statement of project:
The Duxbury High School Library/Media Center (LMC) is a place in the school for students to access, gather, integrate and express information.  Students use the library computers for research, information gathering and writing.

Several tasks that computers in the LMC are used for
Web surfing:
Writing and word processing:
File access:
Printing:
Access to Card Catalog:

Division of labor:
One student will serve as the Manager for this project.  This person will act as the liason between the client (Head Librarian) and business owner (course teacher).  The manager will also be responsible for ensuring that the work done to the computers meets the client.  The Manager should also seek input from teachers and students who use the library (End Customers)
Employees of the Manager will perform tasks that meet the needs of the project as determined by the Manager and Business Owner.

Survey current situation:
Identify equipment on site and its current use.
Make sketches of the floor layout with locations of equipment in the rooms.
If a CAD drawing of the room exists, use it for all notes on the layout of the rooms.
Make notes about date of manufacture and operating system.
Photograph every computer in the LMC in the context of its use.

Meet with client.
What is the current use of equiment in the rooms?
How does the current use of this equiment meet the needs of the situation?
Discuss and list uses of the equipment in the rooms.
Discuss and list software used on the equipment in the rooms.

Meet with the client to determine ways that the system does not currently meet the needs of the client and end customers.

Make a plan:
Break the larger project into several smaller tasks with clear definitions.
Divide projects into hardware, software, network.
Identify equipent/tools resources needed for the project.

Implement the plan:
A requirement for this project is that the number of student workstations should never be reduced.
Any equiment that is needed to be build or repaired must be replaced with equal or greater function before it is removed from the LMC.
Recruit and train Employees to perform needed repairs.

Follow up:
Photograph each built or repaired computer in the context of its use.
Solicit feedback from Client, End Customers and other community members.
Create web documentation that represents project goals, achievements decisions and links to related resources. 
Web documentation should be created in a way that is both consistent with TechEd guidelines and is black and white printer friendly.
