March 7th:
The Season of Lent:
Lent begins with Ash Wednesday which is February 25th this year. Our class has been studying about Saints and has decided to use this information to make out Lenten season more meaningful. Hearing out call to holiness is an important part of spiritual renewal and we challenge everyone to be more saint-like this Lenten season!
"I CAN BE MORE SAINT-LIKE TOO"
Life on earth is a wonderful girft from God. We want to live as good people who love and server God by loving, seving and helping others like the Saints. Each person is different, you can discover you special way by doing 4 things:
- Look at yourself. what are you talents and ablilites? What are you good at? What do you love to do?
- Look at the world around you. What are the needs that you see? Where can you help? What can you do to make life betting and happier for others?
- Look toward God and in prayer. Ask for help and wisdom to choose what best fulfills your purpose in life, and what brings comfort, peace and joy to those around you and to yourself.
- Look toward adults, femily and friends you trust, people of faith who love God, who love you, and who want you to become your best self. Seek out the best possible role models. Look, listen and learn from the best people you can find.
A Saint for the 21st Century
- God is the one who calls people to beocme Saints;
- Saints are people who love God and others - you cant seperate one from the other;
- Saints show their love for God by loving others;
- The love that Saints have for other is an echo, a reflection of the love that God has for others;
- Saints find out how God is calling them to love by being attentive to the needs of people in the world they live in;
- The lives of Saints tell us something about God: when God calls certain people in certain situations to love in certain ways, God is telling us what is important in God's eyes.
For exaple, mother Teresa of Calcutta served the poorest of the poor, the dying, the children who would otherwise have been abandoned or oborted. If God called her to do this, what was God telling the whole world through Mother Teresa? Possibly that even though the society of the 20th century did not put much value on life, especially the life of the most vulnerable and the most powerless, God did value their lives. The ministry of Mother Teresa procalimed this love of God in the midst of what Pope John Paul II called the "culture of death". The ministry of Mother Teresa was therefore both a sign of God's loce and a message to the world.
