Sharon High School Theatre CompanyNotes and News for Cast and CrewIf you are auditioning for Volpone or The Pot of Gold, please print out the audition sheet and bring it to auditions on Wednesday. Auditions for Volpone and The Pot of Gold will be held Wed. Dec 5th! More information will follow. Missing Grease? Well now you can check out our online Grease Scrapbook! Now that Grease is over - are you finding yourself at wandering around with nothing to do? Do you keep singing the Grease songs in your head over and over again? Are you afraid of the sunlight and clean air? Well you don't have to suffer much longer. Auditions for the children's play and the festival play will be the week of December 3rd. The definite date has not been decided. People have asked if they can be in both plays, and you can. But you must realize that you will be in rehearsal for two plays at the same time. The children's play goes up Feb. 7 (around there - I don't have a calendar on me!). The Festival play goes up the Saturday after February vacation (March 1 ??) So, if you are involved in both plays it will be demanding but fun of course!! THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT: For those who wish to try out for the Festival play, you must be available during February vacation. We rehearse the end of the vacation (Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday). You must be very honest about this, if you are not available, do not audition for the festival play. But you can audition for the children's show. What do you have to do for the auditions? You will have to perform a scene from one of the plays. I will be (hopefully) posting the scenes on the web-site and exact instructions for how you should prepare for this audition. I am still working out the scenes to be done. You will want to work with people that you know are realiabe and that you can rehearse with. More information will follow. So, what are the plays? The children's play, The Pot of Gold, is based on an Irish folktale that brings together an Irish community and Leprechauns! The cast consists of towns people, the McCormick family (6 sisters, an obnoxious brother, mother and father), Marty the house Leprechaun, "Moe, Curly and Larry" Leprechauns plus other Leprechauns. And everyone has to speak with an Irish accent!!!! Over the top acting is a MUST!!! 31 singing and speaking parts with doubling. Here's the synopsis: The Pot of Gold is a story about a young man named Paddie McCormick who finds a leprechaun. Paddie knows that leprechauns have great wealth, and that they keep it well hidden. He also knows that if he captures a leprechaun he can make the little man tell where he has hidden his gold. So, Paddie makes the leprechaun take him to his pot of gold. The leprechaun takes Paddie to the hidden gold that is buried deep beneath the roots of an old tree. Paddie knows where the gold is, but now he needs a shovel to uncover the treasure. Leprechauns are tricksters. They must keep a promise, but they will find any chance to deceive you. When Paddie decides to tie his red scarf around the branch of the tree where the gold is hidden, he makes the Leprechaun promise not to remove the scarf from the branch. The leprechaun promises. With dreams of great wealth, Paddie rushes back to his house to get a shovel. However, when he returns to the forest to dig for the pot of gold, Paddie gets a big surprise! The Festival play is Volpone by Ben Johnson. Jonhson wrote plays and poetry during the Elizabethean time period, the same time as Shakespeare. The story revoles around a "sly fox" of a man, Volpone who tries to trick people into giving him money. He does this by pretending he is sick and about to die. People give him money and jewels in hopes that he will name them as his heir in his will. The characters are patterned after animals, and those animal triats are carried over in the physicality of each character's personality. We will be staging this as a group of traveling actors who are putting on this play. Actors must be an outrageous "street theatre company". We are looking for people who are not inhibited - who are willing to try anything vocally or physically. As the production notes state - think "Cirque do Soliel". There will be speaking and non speaking parts - all will be part of the ensemble who will be part of the set and sculptures throughout the play. 16 characters. If anyone has pictures they took of Grease, please send them to Becky (reorlo@aol.com). Thanks!
