Knights of Columbus

Readville Council 2980

January, 2002

Brother Knights:

Here’s hoping this letter finds all members and their families happy and healthy as we head into the New Year.

The first annual Holiday Food Drive was more successful than we could have imagined.  Upon delivering the food to the Hyde Park Food Pantry I realized what a significant contribution it was, as I would estimate it increased their supply by about 25%.  The people there were very grateful.  Thanks to Paul Nolan for organizing the drive, to Father Joyce for allowing us to run it at St. Ann’s, and to Brian Clinton for helping us with his contacts at the food pantry.  Many thanks to all of you who contributed to the drive.

We have more events planned for the month of January, which you will find described in greater detail on the next page.  Also, now that the Patriots have clinched a playoff berth, we look forward to seeing many of you at the council for the postseason games.  Additionally, so you can plan well in advance, Steve Mowles is planning a trip to a Pawtucket Red Sox game in May.  I will send more information as it becomes available.

As I mentioned in the last letter, the next council meeting will be Tuesday, January 8th, at 7:30 pm.    Remember to call me about any ideas you have at (617) 361-5633 or you can send an e-mail to

As always, I appreciate your support and look forward to continuing a great year.

Pot Luck Tailgate Party

We will be having a pot luck tailgate party for the NFL Conference Championship Games on Sunday, January 27th.  Please feel free to bring whatever you want in terms of food.  We did this the day of the Patriots-Chargers game and it worked out very well.  If you need suggestions on what to bring or want to let me know what you will be bringing so that we can avoid duplication of efforts, please call or e-mail me.  All are welcome.

Thursday Nights

Once again, we have been and will be keeping the council open until midnight or later on Thursday evenings.  The turnout has been encouraging.  Please come down and shoot pool, play cards, and watch games.  The more people we can get coming down regularly, the more we can improve the attractions we have (add video games, etc.).  We appreciate your support.

Cribbage League

There will be a cribbage league run at the council from mid-January until the end of April.  It is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday nights at 7:30 pm, with the exception of the first Tuesday of each months when we have our council meetings.    The tentative dates are as follows:

Jan. 15    Jan. 22  Jan. 29  Feb. 12  Feb. 19, Feb. 26,  March 12, March 19, March 26

 April 9, April 16, April 23, April 30.

If you are interested, please contact Billy MacDonald at (781) 255-0133 to register or for more information.   To date, Billy has not received one call, which is very disappointing.  In discussing this idea we received a lot of positive input in terms of the number of people interested in playing.  I would appreciate it if anyone with any interest would contact Billy as soon as possible.  As it stands now, we will just come down on January 15th and see who shows up to play.  Thanks.
