Factoring Trinomials
Students will be assessed in this unit by two quizzes, homework completion, a group activity, and a final test. Students overall grade will be based on 15% for each quiz, 20% for homework, 20% for group activity and 30% for the test, overall equaling 100%.
Quiz 1- based on products of polynomials,
difference of two squares, perfect square trinomials, Factoring Trinomials,
Combined types of Factoring: Section 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6: Worth 15 points
Quiz 2- Factoring by grouping, Solving Equations by
Factoring, Standard Quadratic Equation, And Consecutive Integers: Section 7, 8,
9, and 10: Worth 15 points
Homework Completion- completion on all homework assigned in
unit: Includes Section 1 thru 10: Worth total of 20 points
Group Activity- based on all material in unit along with
cooperation of students, to be implemented in the class before the day of the test:
Worth 20 points
Test- final evaluation, based on material in all sections, information
covered on both quizzes: Section 1 thru 10: Worth 30 points
Each quiz will be a
set of ten short answer items worth 9 points each, and two multiple choice
items on vocabulary terms worth 5 points each; knowledgeable attempt is awarded
4 points for each short answer problem provided that the student showed his/her
work.
Homework will be
evaluated based on completion and will be assessed with a checklist, unless
excusable reason: homework will loose 2 points every day not passed in, overall worth
of 20 points
Group Activity will
include a rubric evaluating collaboration among students and each math
objective in this unit¸ overall worth of 20 points
One Test will have
20 short answer items, 1 matching item and 2 multiple choice items. Multiple
choice items will be worth 5 points each. Matching item will be worth total of
10 points, 2 points per correct match. Short Answer items will be worth 4
points each with two points awarded to knowledgeable attempt provided that the
student showed his/her work.
