mission:
ever since my freshman year of high school i hoped to some day work in advertising
design. i wished that someday i could abuse my choices of fonts, colors schemes ,and layouts
to make money. i wanted to create the graphics to sell a product, a service, an image.. whatever.

before graduating into the media frenzy world this past year, my senior english teacher
thought it would be a good idea to take a week and dedicated it to learning the word
"propaganda". in that week, along with so many other aspects of the word i learned just
how much p. r. o. p. a. g. a. n. d. a. coexists with what i wanted to do after graduation.
i looked back at the majority of things i'd created in four years and recognized my manipulation
of information be it through 1 point type(very small font size), muted colors, or a cropped photograph.
the proof was all there, i was blindly picking out the target audience and pushing forward full throttle.

he, she, they, we... WE must face it. we are not all the skinny, upper middle class,
white businessmen that make up the bulk of america's own target audience. don't read me wrong,
i'm in no way attacking or bashing said audience of people, if anything they should all consider
themselves lucky (maybe).

to sum this all up, i'd like to say two things;

one, my hopes for a future career in advertising are still the same as they were before,
but now i'm so much more aware of what i'm doing. i recognize my beliefs and what i want
to stand for, and know that i have to keep all the previous in mind when i sit down to market
worker boots, shaving cream, and fast cars.

and two, despite the name, 'girl mathematics' welcomes any gender, race, or age, our mission is
to be a webzine that CELEBRATES the fact that we are NOT america's target audience but
we're still intelligent, talented, crafty, and stylish!
