Churches Come Together for the Purpose of Peace

Bringing people together is what churches do best. However, it usually is within the confines of a particular faith or denomination. The Middleboro/Lakeville Clergy Association is looking to change that. On March 30th, the group will hold an Ecumenical Worship service to offer prayers for peace and reconciliation. The nondenominational type service will be held at 3:00p.m. at Church of Our Saviour Episcopal in Middleboro, MA. The service is open to people of all faiths.

The Association, which is comprised of clergy from various churches throughout the Middleboro and Lakeville areas, hopes to offer more services of this type in the future. This original service has been planned for weeks. However, with the war starting in Iraq, it gave the service more of a sense of purpose.

“This isn’t about joining a church or religion, or what your particular faith may be. It is about bringing communities together to offer prayers for peace, for our troops, and for our nation and the world,” says Father Al Sears, Interim Rector, Church of Our Saviour.

Church of Our Saviour will continue with weekday prayer services and time for reflection throughout the war. Starting on March 24th, a noon prayer service will be held Monday through Friday. On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, the church will open its doors at 9:00a.m. for quiet reflection followed by a 10:00a.m. Morning Prayer service. For those not able to make daytime services, Church of Our Saviour will offer evening reflection from 5:15p.m. to 6:15pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays. A prayer service will follow at 6:15pm.

“It is important, during a crisis, that people have a place to go where they can gather their thoughts and feelings, and shut out the world around them,” says Father Sears. “I am just glad that Church of Our Saviour can offer that refuge.”

Church of Our Saviour Episcopal is located at Center and Union Streets in the center of Middleboro, MA. Weekly Eucharistic services are held at 9:30a.m. on Wednesdays, and 8:00a.m. and 10:00a.m. on Sundays. Office hours are 8:30a.m. to 2:30p.m., Monday through Friday.
