Considered a seminal work on South American Indian (Native American) arts and crafts. The author undertook a village-by-village survey to preserve the information on these crafts before they disappeared under the pressures of modernization. Covers many facets of dying, weaving, clothes making, other textile/fiber arts, basketry, and ceramics, as well as designs/symbols used by the Indians in great detail.
