How I got to be an fencing official in the 1956 olympic games was just amazing.
It all started out with my love for fencing, which I took up at the age of 14, progressing
through to be an "A" grade fencer.
After taking a 7 year break to travel and to marry, I
resumed fencing where I was down graded to "B" grade. Where I won the Victorian
"B" grade championship.

Me in my fencing outfit - Me in my officials Olympic uniform 1956
which we had to pay for ourselves.
I had learnt how to score for local competions and when
the olympics were given to Melbourne
I volunteered and was accepted much to my delight.
We practised constantly for approx 12 months until everything was automatic.
We were told a month before the games that we had to learn French
( the official language of fencing.) I started along with others, to walk out,
as 1 month was insuffiecient time to learn a language. We were recalled
and English was used.
It was a wonderful experience at the Games, and left me with wonderful memories.
