April 29, 2009 (Wed.): 6:30–9:00PM  (7:00PM Speaker)

Speaker: Ginger Lanigan and Associates (Independent Disability Representatives)
Topic:
Social Security Disability

The topic will be Social Security Disability….who is eligible….and why they should file.  We will talk about the requirements of filing and the complete process.

Ginger Lanigan has spoken at over 100 various support groups in Eastern Massachusetts; and is a sustaining member of NOSSCR, NADR, and the American Disability Representation Specialists Association.

Because the Social Security Administration does not clearly make their Disability policies known to uninformed, disabled people who might be entitled to monetary benefits, we like to explain the process.   Ginger will also talk about Supplemental Security Insurance….who is eligible and why they should file.  The process and requirements are basically the same as SSDI.  She will briefly talk about Medicare and Mass Health (Medicaid) as well.

I leave time for questions and answers.  I talk for about 30 minutes and I answer questions for about 30 minutes or whatever time is available.  Of course, I will be happy to stay and answer everybody's

Over the past years MACI has been able to have a number of speakers talk at our support group meetings and have had several meetings where we have shown portions of videos that have been of interest to our members.  MACI attempts to make available to our members a variety of information to enhance understanding of MCS, possible treatment modalities, or supportive modalities to enable coping with chronic illness and disability.  MACI does not endorse any treatment modality, service or service provider.

Upcoming meetings:

  • May 20, 2009 (Speaker: Dana Snyder Grant)

Directions:
The Fernald Center is located at 200 Trapelo Road in Waltham. Some of you may know back roads to get there but I will list directions from Route 128.

  • To get to the Fernald Center you want to take the Trapelo Road Exit off of 128 and follow Trapelo Road toward Belmont. I believe the exit number is 28
  • According to Map Quest it is about 3.2 miles from 128 to 200 Trapelo Road, the Fernald Center (it is on the right if you are going toward Belmont).
  • Go up the drive into the Fernald Center (the Shriners Center is on your left as you enter the roadway).
  • At the top of the hill on your right is the Administration Building. There are only a few parking spots in front. Go by the building and pull into the parking lot on the left side of the Administration building.
  • Go in the front door which takes you into the main lobby. The conference room is to the left off of the main lobby area.
