Kevin headed down to Thompson International Speedway this weekend
in Connecticut along with 21 other modifieds. Practice times
were right up with the top cars, which set him up to finish 8th
overall in the heats. He quickly faded during the feature by
getting caught on the outside to 12th, then 14th, but worked his way
back up to the 9th position. The battery dying kept Kevin
working hard to hold the 8th position for the rest of the race.
He avoided a few spins, and on the last lap two cars in front of him
battling for position collided, giving him a 6th place finish. Overall it was a great weekend, considering all the money other teams
put into their motors to be good at Thompson. Thanks to Jamie
and Jon for helping out as well as Joe for his truck to tow. The
car is still in one piece! :-).

Luckily Kevin got a tow up to Lee with some help of the 13
crew. The car was fast in both practice and the heat, with an
average speed of about 85 MPH. Kevin started the feature on the
outside pole of 25 cars, and fell back to 12th on the first lap
because he got trapped on the outside. The old tires didn't help
much, so that's one change to be made before the next race.
Kevin was definitely as far back as 14th at one point, but we think he
may have finished 12th. The track officials lost track of his
position so it's difficult to say. He escaped unscathed,
although he almost lost the car 3 times exiting the turns because it
was extremely loose. With some new tires and tightening up the
car should be top notch at Thompson on Saturday the 5th. The
77MA of Joe Doucette also made it's debut, turning the same lap times
as Kevin in the beginning. Joe put 4 new tires on his car, and
pulled a 3rd place finish for his first race in the pro four in
years... not a bad finish for a first race in a new car. Thanks
again to the 13 crew for towing Kevin and helping out, as well as the
77MA crew, Jon, Tim, and Brian for their pit work.

Luck just didn't show it's face today at the track. First
during practice, a car spun in front of Kevin. He avoided the
spin, but the car slid down the track and Kevin just barely nicked him
with his right front, breaking the spindle. Ernie welded the
spindle so that it was at least drivable, and Kevin got out in the
heat and placed 4th out of 8 cars on the track, but started the race
12th because there was another heat race for the other 9 cars (there
were 17 total). When he went to fire up the car for the race,
the power steering mechanism basically fell apart. Luckily at
the last minute the problem was fixed, although not totally.
Kevin raced with no power steering, so he was barely able to steer the
car near the end due to the force needed to steer with no power
steering.
If the steering hadn't went, Kevin definitely would have had a top
notch car. His practice times were right up with the leaders',
and it was looking like at least a top 10 finish was possible.
Unfortunately, that's racing! Thanks to Joe, Ernie, Jon, and
everyone who helped pull together parts for Kevin today. There
was tremendous support from all the pro 4 guys around offering tools
and parts which were very much needed and appreciated. Final
positions will be posted when available.

- 4/19/03 - "Piece of ****
battery!"
Kevin began his 2003 season and Pro 4 career at Monadnock Speedway
in Winchester, NH. Everything went as planned... until the first
practice session. The car wouldn't fire up for some reason after
working perfectly fine before hand, but it finally fired with some
good pushing and a shift to 4th gear. Joe Doucette took the car
out for the first run, which was slow and unproductive. The car
was nowhere near up to speed, and something was wrong. When the
car came back into the pits we charged the battery, even though it was
already fully charged and read this way as well on the meter; however,
after searching the car high and low it was clear that the only thing
that could be the problem was the battery. About a half an hour
later, BOOM!
That fine quality battery blew up, sending Kevin and I rushing to
Walmart to get another one.
After dropping the new battery in, the car ran great, and Kevin drove
great. Although he was not as fast as many of the other cars, he
placed 8th in the heat and finished 9th out of 17 cars. The goal of today was to practice, race, and get out
without hurting the car (or the driver, of course). That was
achieved as well as a pretty damn good first run with no bumps or
incidents. We hope to be back out in 3 weeks.
Thanks to Harry and George for their help as well as Ernie and
Joe. Joe and Ernie provided towing equipment, extensive valuable
work on the car, and spotting.
