French Apple Tart serves 8 (total fat-6.02 grams)
Pie dough for 1 pie shell (use ½ recipe Basic Pie Dough)
½ cup unsweetened applesauce
1 pound apples, quartered, cored and thinly sliced
2 tablespoons confectioners' sugar
Preheat oven to 350° F.
Prepare dough according to recipe. After chilling, roll the dough into a 12½ to 13 inch circle. Place on a flat, 12 inch round baking pan. Trim away extra dough from the sides. Prick the dough with a fork in several places. Brush the dough with half the applesauce. Begin to arrange apple slices in a circular design, overlapping the pieces, starting from the outer edge. Arrange a second inner ring of apple slices overlapping the outer circle. Continue the pinwheel design until the whole surface is covered. Apples will flatten during baking. Brush surface of apples with remaining applesauce. Bake 20 to 25 minutes, or until apples are golden and crust is crisp. Sprinkle with confectioners' sugar and serve immediately. ENJOY
