Among the most recognized books on the philosophy of science is Thomas Kuhn's The Structrue of Scientific Revolutions. Kuhn contrasts the typical, gradual accumulation of scientific data and theory with the rare and sudden change in the understanding of the world that accompanies a paradigm shift, such as the Copernican revolution, or the theory of relativity. Kuhn suggests that a paradigm shift is like the emergence of an entirely new world in place of the old. A number of modern researchers suggest that we may be at the edge of such discoveries. The holonomic paradigm describes relevant developments in physics and biology with profound implications for consciousness and even parapsychology.

"I believe that there are powerful reasons for expecting a change. Such a change would, in my view, represent a major revolution, and it cannot be achieved by just 'tinkering' with quantum mechanics." (Penrose, 2005, p. 791)

""We stand at the threshold of a revolution in thinking that transcends anything that has happened in a thousand years." (Walker, 2000)
