Meritorious Service Medal – Awarded to any member of the Armed Forces of the United States who distinguishes themselves by either outstanding achievement or meritorious service to the United States.  This award was established as the counterpart of the Bronze Star for the recognition of meritorious non-combat service.

Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal – Awarded for acts of heroism or for meritorious achievement or service.  To merit this award the acts or services must be accomplished or performed in a manner above that normally expected and sufficient to distinguish the individual above those performing similar services.  Acts of heroism must be worthy of special recognition, but not to the degree required for the Bronze star Medal for combat and the Navy and Marine Corps Medal when combat is not involved.

Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal – Awarded to officers and enlisted personnel for meritorious service or achievement in a combat or non-combat situation based on sustained performance or specific achievement of a clearly superlative nature, and which is of such merit as to warrant more tangible recognition than is possible by a fitness report, but which does not warrant a Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal or higher

Meritorious Unit Citation – Awarded by the Commandant of the Marine Corps in the name of the Secretary of the Navy for valorous or meritorious achievement or service that renders the unit outstanding as compared to other units performing the same service, but not sufficient to award the Navy Unit Commendation.  To justify this award, the unit must have performed service of a character comparable to that which would merit the award of the Bronze Star Medal in combat or the Meritorious Service Medal for an individual.

Navy “E” Ribbon – Awarded to denote permanent duty on or with ships or squadrons that won the battle efficiency competitions subsequent to 1 July 1974.  Only Marines who served as part of the Ship’s Detachment or otherwise designated as “Ship’s Company” are eligible.

Good Conduct Medal – Awarded to enlisted Marines to recognize good behavior and faithful service in the Marine Corps.  Based on a Marine’s individual conduct for three-year periods of continuous active service involving no convictions by court martial, no non-judicial punishment under Article 15 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, and no lost time be reason of sickness or injury due to misconduct.

Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal – Awarded to Marines who have actually made an opposed landing on foreign territory and engaged in operations against armed opposition, or operated under circumstances deemed to merit special recognition and for which service no other campaign medal has been awarded.

Sea Service Deployment Ribbon – Awarded for the completion of 12 months consecutive or accumulated active duty at an overseas FMF command.  Also awarded to Marines who completed a deployment of 90 or more consecutive days away from their permanent duty station and who have also completed 12 months assigned to an FMF command.
