Air conditioner challenged

So, I’m back from my trip, which was fun, tiring and not really eventful. And someday I’ll actually write about it. I really do plan to write about it and I’d like to think sooner than later.

Althought I make no promises as I know my good intentions often fall through.

I’ve been home for just over a week now, and have been dying of the heat since I got back, so I’ve not had the ambition to do anything that involves expending energy. All activities must revolve around being able to sit in one place and try not to sweat profusely.

I haven’t been in the slightest bit successful

I got back on a Thursday evening and had all sorts of crazy errands to do on Friday. So I did all sorts of bopping around in the car, having the mail start up again, changing the cable box, getting groceries etc.

It was brutally hot and the air conditioning in my car doesn’t work. But I’m sort of getting used to having a breeze blow through the car and it’s great unless I have to stop at a long light. Then it gets to be a sauna.

But I got it all done.

On Saturday morning I got up early to go to a Stamp Expo in Rhode Island, having made plans to meet some of my friends. So I hopped in the car, turned on the engine and a big orange glow that said "Check Engine" lit up the dashboard.

I wanted to scream.

That meant not getting to RI I finally called my mother and borrowed her car, but I was so late that I missed just about everyone I had wanted to see. It was a very small show and not worth the hour that it took to get there.

This also meant that I had no car of my own for the weekend, and I knew that no one would look at it on Monday so I’d likely be without my own wheels until at least Tuesday night.

And I was right, and $350 dollars poorer for it.

And did I have them fix the air conditioning? No, that would have been at least another $400.

And the heat and humidity continues.

In the midst of all this the air conditioner in my living room has also given up the ghost. It blows hot air. It is not good.

So I went out and got a kind of nifty dual window fan that can either act as an intake or outtake fan, but it doesn’t really do all that much good. But I figure stirring air is better than no stirring air.

I also found my oscillating fan and have parked that on a chair in front of the balcony door so it blows on me when I sit at the computer. That one does stir the air a lot, but it’s still 90 degrees with 85% humidity in here.

The air conditioner in the bedroom is operational and it does help a bit when I go to sleep, but not enough. I haven’t slept for more than three hours for the last three nights.

And I’m danged cranky because of it!

They say that the heat will break sometime Monday night, with storms coming in. And I say, bring ‘em on, baby!

We need some relief!

I need to do some work for school, so I’m thinking of hooking up the laptop in the bedroom and working in there. The only problem with that is that there’s no cable in the bedroom and it will be boring television in there.

Speaking of cable, I mentioned that I had to go and get a new cablebox when I came back from vacation, this was because while I was gone they changed my cable! It was really weird to come home and find that all the channels were screwed up and that I couldn’t find any of the shows that I like to watch. They switched to some new system that required a new box and remote. But I can’t get the remote to work as well as the old remote, it won’t mute the sound. I think my television is too old or something.

But I can live with it.

The irritating part of all of this is that they changed the numbers of the channels in the box, so what used to be found when I pressed 3 is now 38. I’m lost.

Time to go and take another shower. It will be the 3rd one today. But I’m feeling sticky and I think I might smell bad. This heat has GOT to go!
