Thank you for visiting my page at Angelfire. I have been a Domestic Violence advocate and writer since 1991. In 1993, my sister Patty was brutally murdered by her husband in front of their 3 year old son. This man was convicted of first degree murder with no parole. When my sister Patty's body was lying in the morgue, my family couldn't even legally have her body relinquished to us. Only her next of kin could. At this point, I knew that something was radically wrong with the system. Here was a man who murdered her and was the only one that could release her. What a slap to the victim's families face. We had a local court judge waive this and give her to us. Even the judge stated that Laws need to be changed. After this man was convicted, he still had full legal control regarding his kids. He not only had control over his kids, he also had control over whatever assets or property she had. We as a Society need to change things, and finally get rights for victims, not for murderers. I have Legislation presently pending in Massachusetts. We as victims, have to take a stand. Childrens rights should supersede parental rights if it is in the best interest of the child. Children should not have to be dragged up to these prisons, especially if they have witnessed such vile acts against one parent by the other parent. This is abuse through and through.
