Spectrum is Umass-Lowell's Gay, Lesbian, Bi, Transgender, Questioning, and Straight Ally Group. Right now, I'm the president of Spectrum, but elections are happening next week (5/17) and I'm not running, because I won't be at UML next year. There's a core of about ten of us who are all best friends. We do all sorts of social and educational activities. This year we've held a candlelight vigil for Matthew Sheppard, held a state-wide GLTB conference, held a New England-wide GLTB dance, hosted a trip to New York to see RENT, have started a New England-wide College Networking program, have opened a new resource center filled with GLTB resources, have put up a violence prevention graveyard during violence prevention week, and this week we're hosting a trip to P-Town. As you can see, we stay pretty busy. We have meetings every monday at 7pm. The first monday of each month we have the meetings at 5pm and have a movie screening after. It's tons of fun. For more info on Spectrum you can call the office at (978)-934-5081, or check out the link to our webpage, however, the webpage is in the middle of being updated, so not all of the information there is acurate.
These are pictures from the opening of our center:
This is Tinky. The Literary Society gave him to
us as a housewarming gift. Spectum and the Lit. Society are really
good friends we always share offices and officers for that matter.
Most of us hold office in both clubs.
This is the main room to the office. The office
has two rooms. One, this one, has couches, a TV & VCR, food,
a fridge & Microwave, and our books, videos and flyers.
This is a pic that was taken for the Connector, UML's
newspaper.
