Pastor’s Message

“Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. 31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.”

Advent is a time of celebration as well as a time of reflection as we wait for the birth of the Messiah. God’s people had just gone through 400 years of silence where they had not heard from God. That is a long time and their hearts were longing for a word.

Near the end of that silence a young teenage girl heard from God in a big way. She had an angelic visit and was told that she would bear a child and his name would be Jesus because he would save his people from their sins.

The silence was broken and praise the Lord Mary said yes to God. She would give birth to the one who would be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father and Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6

Even though God’s people went through that period of silence God was working on their behalf and on our behalf. He was preparing to fulfill the scripture in Isaiah and every scripture that was given that predicted the birth of Jesus Christ.

God fulfills his promises and Jesus certainly fulfilled everything that was written about him.

Over the centuries many have been deceived about the babe in Bethlehem. They were looking for a rich man with earthly power but that is not what we needed. We needed Jesus, the one who was born in humble circumstances and would relate to our humanness. He did not come to rule the government but to rule in our hearts.

This Christmas as we hear the amazing story of the birth of Jesus let us remember that, even though God may sometimes be silent, he has an amazing plan for us.

God Bless,

Pastor Ruth
