A Message from Pastor Ruth

“And Mary said: “My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed, for the Mighty One has done great things for me— holy is his name. 50 His mercy extends to those who fear him, from generation to generation.” Mary’s Song Luke 1:46

We have just passed through Thanksgiving and have taken some time to count our blessings. Now we turn our minds and hearts toward Christmas. This portion of scripture from Luke is part of “Mary’s Song.” Mary has just had a visit from the announcing angel Gabriel who has told her that she would be with child: “But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.”

Can you just imagine how Mary felt? Why me, why is God choosing me? Mary was blessed. As she visited her cousin Elizabeth, she expresses that her “soul glorifies the Lord and her spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has been mindful of the humble estate of his servant.”

During the Christmas Season think about the fact that as Christians we also are blessed. God has been mindful of each one of us. He has called us to follow him and serve him. We are blessed because Jesus said “Yes” and came to earth as a babe in a manger. He did not have a fancy start in life, nor did he have all the comforts that we have today. He chose to come because of you and me. He chose to come so that he could die in our place and set us free.

Each day of Advent think about how God is mindful of you and how he has done great things in your life and will continue to do so. He can do far greater things that we can ever imagine.

Merry Christmas,

Pastor Ruth Blais
