For those who love horses, especially foals, and have never heard of "Premarin Mares," you will be shocked. Premarin is a popular medication prescribed to women to help with the symptoms of Menopause, however few people know how it's made. Premarin is made using the urine of pregnant mares. These mares are tied up tightly, given as little water as possible, so the urine is MUCH more concentrated, and are fitted with bags to collect it. Not only does this cause great discomfort for the mares, but as a result they are constantly subject to other illnesses, including urinary track infections. However, as bad as that seems, that's the "easy" part. As soon as the mares are unable to breed any longer, they are useless, and are sold to slaughter unless rescued. Also, the foals that result from this practice serve no purpose and are useless to the Premarin people once they are born, are also sold to slaughter immediatly unless rescued as well. Imagine, countless numbers of gorgeous healthy foals who could potentially become wonderful riding and driving horses being killed without a chance at life. Still not convinced, thinking we need this medicine, and this is the ONLY way we can get it? I have been told there are numerous other medications for the same thing that are made with Yams, Soybeans, and beets!!! I do not mean to say we shouldn't have cure for what medical conditions Premarin can help, but this seems alittle extreme! What can you do to help? Well, one thing you can do is adopt a Premarin foal! Even if you take it with the intention of placing it with a good home later, you have saved one life - one tiny foal who will get a chance because of YOU!!! If you have the time, knowledge, money, and space to adopt a Premarin foal, please do. E-mail us to find out how! And please visit the Premarin website listed on the links above for more information on the practice.
