XBSS Coaches Meet

All twelve Xaverian Sponsored Schools sent members of their coaching staffs to a weekend workshop in late fall of this school year in Towson, MD, to allow them to discern how gospel values and the Xaverian mission challenge them and their colleagues.

Faced with the impact of the professional sports culture, marketing initiatives, multiple and varied expectations within and outside the school community, the time together gives the coaches a chance to identify the core values, share with one another insights about problems and possible solutions, and support one another. Five presentations provided valuable input for the gathering: “Coaching, Gospel Values and the XBSS Mission”, “The Coach as a Role Model”, “Sportsmanship”, “Legal Issues and Sports” and “Drugs, Alcohol, Supplements and Sports”.

The weekend proved to be valuable and enjoyable for the participants. The opportunity to support one another was much appreciated. Finding ways to achieve all the important objectives this workshop surfaced remains a major challenge for these teaching professionals.
