BREAK DOWN THE WALLS-DEVAY
(CANADA/POLARIS RECORDS/1992)

These days there are not many female fronted AOR/Melodic Rockbands, but at the end of the 80s there were loads of them. By 1992 there also were a few of them, such as TC KROSS, BAD SISTER, BROKEN SILENCE and this Canadian band called DEVAY. Their CD 'Break down the walls' was produced by BRYAN HUGHES, one of the leaders of Canadian AOR and Pomprock with his former bands BEAU GESTE and THE BRYAN HUGHES GROUP.

DEVAY has a style which can be described as pure melodic rock with a lot of AOR influences. The music is similar to WITNESS, HEAT, LAOS... The best track is "Whatever it takes" which is pure AOR like the 1989 WITNESS album. A classic song indeed! Also very impressive are the semi-ballad "Save me", the midtempo rocker "Take me away", and the uptempo melodic rockers "I won't let go" and "If I gave you my love".

Fans of melodic rockacts with a female vocalist will go crazy when hearing this CD. Like many other acts, also this one is hard to get.

(Points: 8.5 out of 10)
