Some Ideas for Sketchbook Pages

You can put anything you want into your sketchbook.
I try to put the date and what the weather was like.

The time of day is good if you want to go back and revisit birds or animals
that only come out at certain times of day.
Some flowers only bloom in the morning, or only the afternoon!

If you will visit many places with your sketchbook,
you might want to write down where you were when you drew the picture.
But if you're going camping or to one special spot,
you could just write that on the cover of your sketchbook.

Here are some Spring pages from my notebooks for different years and places.
They may take a while to load, but you can see the detail and notes better this way.

Lily Root Under Water

This is a picture drawn in a swamp.
It is the root that lies under the water.
The pond lily on top of the water will be yellow later in the year.

Geese and goslings

Last Spring, a family of geese came to our front yard, which is on a pond.
Birds move around a lot, so you may only get quick sketches of them.

Leaves opening

If you really want to be aware of Spring, try drawing buds as they open.
Maybe you can find pussywillows to draw.
They change quite a lot, if you go back and visit them from week to week.

Here are some Spring flowers:

And one last picture of adult geese at a salt marsh:
