The Lazy Webmasters Guild FAQ

LWMG FAQ {last update 10.25.01}

Welcome to the Lazy Webmasters Guild! Our guild is dedicated to Webmasters everywhere who want the best web page they can build, but don't necessarily want to learn every bit of code or draw each graphic on their own.
There are plenty of wonderful people on the web who have created images, java applets, perl scripts, templates, etc. for webmasters to use on their pages. We feel there's absolutely nothing wrong with a few shortcuts, if it gets you the page you want.
We're not bad webmasters, nor are we necessarily bad coders or bad artists. Being lazy doesn't mean we've slapped together a web site, either; we've put time and effort into our work. But we don't mind taking the easier route to a finished page, if it gets the job done right.

1. How do I Join?

Okay, well, if you are on here, you probably already have. If you aren't sure how you got here, ask scorpio@javanet.com or gleep@massfen.org. They are the Guildmistresses.

2. What are the Guild Requirements?

3. What if I don't meet all these requirements?

The Guildmistresses reserve the right to agree that you are lazy enough to join anyways. If you want to be a member but don't meet all the requirements, ask!

4. What if I borrowed something for my site, but it's in the public domain?

If you are sure the borrowed item is public domain, then you don't necessarily need to give credit for it. But be very careful that it is indeed public domain! Generally, most people will tell you up front if the stuff on their pages is public domain or not. If they haven't, ask them if you can borrow from their site.

5. I don't like being called "lazy." Why'd you choose that?

Think of a lazy summer afternoon. You might read a book. Take a walk in the park. Capture fireflies, or eat ice cream. Have you done something wrong? Of course not! You've enjoyed yourself!
Creating a web site the easy way doesn't mean you've done anything bad. In fact, we encourage you to take time and build the best site you can. But we won't get on your case if you didn't hand code every little item on your page. Who has that kind of time? We'd rather you enjoyed what you create.

6. I have a friend/relative/other I think should join. Can I invite them?

Sure! Just give them the address to the main guild page. They can join up from there, by applying to the Webring or the Mailing list:

The Lazy Webmasters Guild

7. What's this list for?

All things webmasterly! Especially as a resource for free sites, free code, free graphics, etc. -- but also for discussing the craft of building a web page.

8. All right, I want to leave. How do I get out?

If you have a Yahoo ID, you can remove yourself from the mailing list. You can also remove your site from the Webring if you log in there. If you prefer, the Guildmistresses can remove you, too.

However, before you go, we'd like to know why you are leaving. Just as a courtesy.
