My Name is Mwalim and I'm a
Black-Wampanoag Performance Artist and Arts Educator.
Having lived in Mashpee, Massachusetts, which is my father's
ancestral homeland, I now reside in the Bronx, New York, which is the place of my birth.
My name(which is pronounced "mwah-leem") means "teacher" in Ahrmaic. In Wampanoag my name is "Kukutumtunup" or "Speaking Turtle" which also means "teacher" My artistic disciplines include music (pianist, percussionist, singer, composer, record producer), literature (author, poet, playwright, screenwriter) and theater (actor, director, storyteller, filmmaker).
