What is Christmas without the Christmas pine tree? How did this wonderful holiday tradition begin? some folks believe it started in Germany in the mid 700's. because of the fact that the evergreen trees stays green all year long many believe it to be the symbol of eternal life. Christians believe that because of the Savior Jesus Christ, (His sacrifice and resurrection), all will be resurrected and live forever in a glorified state. Therefore what better way to celebrate Christmas than by bringing a symbol of eternal life into your home.
Martin Luther, who was German, was thought to bring the tree indoors, and decorated it with candles. It was said that he wanted to show his children what stars looked like in the forest at night.
Nowdays Americans have carried on this tradition, as well as many people around the world. Only we use safe electric lights. We still need to be very careful that we don't have a dry tree and that all our lighting is safe.

We have in many states a lighting cerimony where we light up the bigest trees in the town square. Here in Utah , in Salt Lake, we have what is called the "Festival of Trees". People decorate trees and have them on parade. There are thousands of beautifully decorated trees on sale. The proceeds go to the Primary Children's Medical Center. It is such a beautiful event
Most people gather round the Christmas trees to exchange gifts at Christmas.
Some people get real trees from Christmas tree lots, some cut there own down in forests.
Others get thiers at stores. Some are not real at all they are made of plastic or some other material. But what ever the kind of tree, Children love them, adults stare at the lights and ornaments as if mesmerised by their warmth, and people of all ages like them and are uplifted by thier beauty!
