Shepherds

Shepherds were watching over there flocks when came the first proclamation from the angels that the Savior had been born. "And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you: Ye shall find a babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men." (Luke 2:8-14)

The Shepherds were among the most humble people of earth, and yet they were the ones destined to spread the word to all people. Imagine the host of angels appearing to these humble few, and singing the songs of peace, wishing them Peace on earth, and good will toward men, singing, "glory to God in the highest". How blessed among all the people of the earth were those shepherds!

The shepherds were trusted by Heavenly Father. They may have not been sophisticated, ( they were just keepers of sheep), yet their faith was in tune with the spirit; They never asked for a sign, Yet they recieved one to guide them in their search. They didn't wait around, but went right away, for they believed with all their hearts, and had a knowledge of this great truth, for they said, "Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us." They found their Savior Babe in the manger, with Mary and Joseph near by. Once they saw this great miracle, they went out and testified that the Savior was born. Imagine how they must have returned to their flocks, and how they must have glorified and praised God for the things that they had heard and seen that Holy night.
