Time-in-Rank Promotions
Up to 1st Dan
* Eligible every three months
* Video demonstration of skills is required. Please submit an outline of what you would require of a student testing for the rank in question. We will review your requirements and work with you to achieve an acceptable requirement basis for your videotape test. Such categories could include but are not limited to: 1. Form / Kata; 2. Weapons forms / Kata; 3. Sparring; 4. One step sparring; 5. Self-defense techniques; 6. Grappling techniques; 7. Unarmed defenses against weapons; 8. Essays regarding various topics related to progression in martial arts.
* All such testing/promotions will be administered by the Vice President and Chief Examiner Kirk Simmons. The chief examiner will have full authority to establish testing criteria and to evaluate each test. He may as needed create ad hoc evaluation committees to assist in any promotion/testing.
* If the chief examiner does not determine the test to be satisfactory, he will contact the candidate with areas for improvement. The candidate may then re-test those specific areas until satisfactory. Candidates may re-test as many times as necessary to achieve proficiency, but there may be no more than two (2) re-tests in any calendar year.
* No cost to member other than $3 production, materials and shipping & handling charge.
Dan Ranking
* 1st Dan - 2nd Dan - Eligible after two years time in previous rank.
* 3rd Dan and above - Eligible after three years time in previous rank.

Promotion before Time-in-Rank requirement is met
* Prospective candidates must be active members of the federation for at least one year from date of joining.
* Prospective candidates must have held their current rank for a period of one year from their previous promotion date.
* All such testing/promotions will be administered by the Vice President and Chief Examiner Kirk Simmons. The chief examiner will have full authority to review candidate application letters, to establish testing criteria and to evaluate each test. He may as needed create ad hoc evaluation committees to assist in any promotion/testing.
* Prospective candidates must submit a letter of application to the chief examiner. Candidates will address at a minimum: their progression in rank in martial arts, curricula studied in martial arts, seminars attended, contribution to the martial arts and time in training/teaching. Each candidate must also provide reasons to justify testing prior to the federation's established time-in-rank periods. Copies of all rank certificates earned in martial arts must be submitted. Copies of certificates earned at seminars should also be included. Letters of reference from martial art peers, high-ranking students and/or parents of young students should also be submitted.
* The chief examiner will review and evaluate each application letter and supporting material. He may contact the prospective candidate for more information as necessary. Upon satisfactory review, the chief examiner shall authorize and invite the prospective candidate to test. During any calendar year no more than six (6) candidates will be invited for testing.
* Only one such testing/promotion will be allowed per calendar year to a member.

* The chief examiner shall establish testing fees as appropriate but no more than the recommended fees: Below 1st dan - $15 per rank; 1st dan - $35.00; 2nd dan - $50.00; 3rd dan - $90.00; 4th dan - $120.00; 5th dan - $150.00; 6th dan and above - $175.00. There will be no fees for re-tests.

System/Martial Art Founder Recognition
* Prospective candidates must submit appropriate verification documents for recognition. They must have held their current rank for a period of three years from their previous promotion date.
* All system/martial art founder recognitions will be administered by the Vice President and Chief Examiner Kirk Simmons. The chief examiner will have full authority to review candidate application letters, to establish evaluation criteria and to evaluate each submission. He may as needed create ad hoc evaluation committees to assist in his evaluations.
* Prospective candidates must submit a letter of application to the chief examiner. Candidates will address at a minimum: their progression in rank in martial arts, curricula studied in martial arts, seminars attended, contribution to the martial arts and time in training/teaching. Each candidate must also provide a complete syllabus and curriculum for the system and an essay (2-5 pages) explaining the philosophy and unique qualities of the system. Copies of all rank certificates earned in martial arts must be submitted. Copies of certificates earned at seminars may also be included. Letters of reference from martial art peers, high-ranking students and/or parents of young students may also be submitted.
* The chief examiner will review and evaluate each application letter and supporting material. He may contact the prospective candidate for more information as necessary.
* If the applicant has recognition from another organization, the chief examiner will authorize federation recognition.
* If the applicant does not have recognition from another organization, the applicant will be required to submit a video. The applicant will submit an outline of what would be required of a student testing for each rank in the system. The chief examiner will review the submittal with the applicant to achieve an acceptable requirement basis for the videotape demonstration. Demonstration categories could include but are not limited to: 1. Form / Kata; 2. Weapons forms / Kata; 3. Sparring; 4. One step sparring; 5. Self-defense techniques; 6. Grappling techniques; 7. Unarmed defenses against weapons.
* If the chief examiner does not determine the demonstration to be satisfactory, he will contact the candidate with areas for improvement. The candidate may then re-test those specific areas until satisfactory. Candidates may re-test as many times as necessary to achieve proficiency, but there may be no more than two (2) re-tests in any calendar year.
* The fee will be $175. There will be no fees for re-tests.
* No rank recognition or promotion certificate shall be issued in conjunction with the system/martial art founder certificate. Rank recognition certificates will only be issued under the requirements set forth in previous sections.
